Polish concentration camps term banned - Netanyahu against

I am with Poland on that one.... concentration camps were NOT Polish. It is appauling to read the comments below the article - with people who had no clue what were occupation conditions in Poland compared to other nations. Although I would not imprison people for using this term

ERUASALEM -- A diplomatic crisis between Israel and Poland appeared to be deepening on Sunday as Poland’s deputy chief of mission, Piotr Kozłowski, was summoned to Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem over a law approved by the Polish parliament making it a criminal offence to mention Polish complicity in crimes committed during the Holocaust.

Polish lawmakers voted Friday for a bill that would fine or jail people who blame Poland or Poles for Nazi atrocities committed on its soil during World War II, including the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Jews at the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp. The law still needs final approval from the Polish Senate and the country’s president.

The center said it agreed that the term “Polish death camps” was a historical misrepresentation -- the extermination camps were set up in Nazi-occupied Poland in order to murder the Jewish people within the framework of the "Final Solution."

“However, restrictions on statements by scholars and others regarding the Polish people's direct or indirect complicity with the crimes committed on their land during the Holocaust are a serious distortion,” read the Yad Vashem statement.

Those were terrible years of war with remnants of reminders that linger unto the present time. For as with Poland, was also to Germany of many years past, each to pass laws that are commensurate to the conditions exposed of.

It is then to codify these laws in to with fitting that of the constitution of such state as being of Poland. If there arise a conflict between the proposed new law against that of the constitution, then the legality of that proposal would of course then be struck until a new more fitting of such proposal be in alignment with that of the constitution. If there shall become a conflict with laws of a lesser authority, then those should be then struck until then to be aligned to agree with that of the exact wording to the supreme law of the land as dictated by the constitution.

It is a process of trickle down from the highest law of the land, to the lowest regional law. For as with both to coincide and compliment one to the other.

yes, you are right, that there is a long legal process to solve this dilemma. I understand the frustration of Poles with being accused of having Polish concentration camps, but the prison as penalty? On the other hand, why Netanyahu would interfere?

In my opinion Poland was not complicit tot the Holocaust. But like in any nation you had individuals and groups who profited from the Nazi occupation. Some imnmoral profeteers, opportunists and criminals.
I don't believe that the Polish state, the country, the Polish government was complicit tot the Holocaust. Next to the SS, Baltic and Ukrainian Nazi forces and the Jewish police you had the Polish *Blue Police
in the ghetto's.

You had incidents and attrocities like in Jadwebne, but in any wars war crimes take place and every party/side involved will make mistakes and kill innocent people.

I don't want to downplay wrongdoings and war crimes. But fact was that there was a genocidal war going on in Poland and fact is that 3 million Polish Roman-Catholics were murdered next to 3 million Polish jews.
The group of murdered Polish jews was the largest group of murdered jews in Europe, more than any other country.

Fact also was that the Polish intelligentsia, the intellectual elite was targeted and largely wiped out by the **Intelligenz aktion and during the Warsaw uprising.

yes, Poles had blue police, but even Jews were asked to select people from their own under the Nazi pressure - so there were these Jews who had some power and these who did not.

I thought that the intelligenz action was in the beginning of the war at Jagiellonian University when they sent professors to the German camp

My Polish grandfather who was part of the Polish intelligentsia and elite had a suitcase by his side during the entire war, due to the fact that the Gestapo was interested in his kind. The Nazi's wanted to wipe out the entire Polish elite. It is true that the Intelligenz Aktion took place in the beginning of the war. But the German and Austrian Nazi's killed 3 million Polish Roman Catholics. They especially targetted Polish Roman Catholic priests, but also Polish citizensin general. Poles were rounded up the entire war during Łapanka's from 1939 until early 1945.
