2007.06.29
Well known businessman Przemyslaw Chabowski who left Morliny meat producer, is building a mushroom group which next year may be listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Poland is Europe's second-largest producer of mushrooms, after the Netherlands.
Chabowski, one of the best known managers in the Polish food industry, decided to take a try in the mushroom industry after many years spent at Morliny meat producer. He acquired the company, beating outtwo Polish-Dutch companies: Okechamp and Ole.
"I have managed to convince the shareholdersthat we should merge all three companies to build the most dynamic and innovative mushroom group in Europe", Chabowski said. Okechampfrom the Netherlands specializes in logistics and distribution in Western Europe, may join the group as well. Over 90 percent of the sales of Polish firmsare exported.
Chabowski believes that the group may look for funds on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Its IPO is possible within 12 months at the earliest. Hehas also successfully recruitedmany experienced people from Morliny to work with him.
This year, investments in two companies building the group will amount to PLN 30m (EUR 34.3m). Both are profitable. "Their consolidated EBITDA is a double-digit number and sales will amount to PLN 130m this year", Chabowski said.
Experts stress that Poland is becoming a big fish on the European mushroom market with nearly 25 percent market share. "The annual production growth in Poland amounts to 5-7 percent annually and is stimulated by exports growth mainly", said Krystian Szudyga, the CEO of the Association of Mushroom Producers in Poland.
