Since we just came back from the trip to Southern Colorado and Utah - where red iron oxides are so prevalent and they form these beautiful forms of Utah rocks... I have a question.
Where in Poland was the oldest active region of iron ores mining and metallurgy since almost middleages? Where in Poland one can see red-shaded rocks of hematite on the roadsides?

I don't think you can. Most of the mines are in Silesia, but these are mostly coal mines - I haven's seen any red rock there. Maybe there are some in Poland I haven't heard about - but I doubt it.

Hello Maiki, welcome to the forum. I am glad you tried to help us out with this question. But - yes, there are more very old ore centers in Poland. I saw it with my own eyes, so maybe.... somebody would still try to do more research about it to answer this question I was there, I saw it

Charles, thanks for trying - Silesia is a great center of mining and the mining is there for a long time. But I thought about Kielce area and Swietokrzyskie (Holy Cross) region. In Krzemionki Opatowskie the mining was as old as thousands years ago. But it was mainly flint mining www.geo.uw.edu.pl/KRZEMIONKI/index.htmit has also English version In many places of Kielce region the colorful (red) rocks arde easily accessible therefore these areas were mined earlier than anywhere else in spite of the fact that the percentage of iron in the iron ores was pretty low.

Jaga Thank you for the corrections. Actually was suprised for as the post was not so good, and in retro-thought, had deleted it out, or so I thought. I have been so touchy and crank type of late and must be careful as not to be offensive. Silesia is very well known for the extensive mining in metals/coal, but I was unaware of flint! The material of survial of the aceints. The site was veery informative and interesting, thank you for presenting it.. Charles
