Guys,
I wish you lived closer! We have quite many rasberries, currants (porzeczki)and goosberries (agrest). I prepared for my family a good low-fat rasberry dessert today (rasberries with low fat plain yogurt and cereal). But I need more ideas what to do with currants and gooseberries.
I have to admit that for the last two years we basically wasted gooseberies. I only used them once for a cake. The currants and gooseberries are great for the compote, but there are so many juices here in the USA that it is just a waste of time.
So, if you know some good recipes for any of these delicious and healthy fruit, please share it with us!

Hi Jaga,
I just went to one of my favorite recipe sites, allrecipes.com, and did a search for "currant" and "gooseberry" and quite a few recipes popped up, especially for gooseberry pie and currant jam and currant scones/cookies. Most berries are pretty interchangeable in recipes; you just need to adjust the sugar if the berries are sweet or tart (and the amount of pectin if you're making jam)
Currants are good in baked things and as far as I know, you can substitute them for raisins in cookies, quick breads, etc.

I agree with Suzanne. Currant scones or jams is what I was thinking also. Gooseberry jam, pies.

Suzanne, Chris,
thanks! I actually did the research before posting this message and I found some recipes but I was just hoping that you have your own tested recipes which you tried and you could recommend!
It seems that very few people use gooseberies and currants anymore, especially here in the US. In Poland one can find still currants and gooseberries on the farmer markets.

I wish I did have some recipes of my own to share, but as for gooseberries: I've never made anything with them, because, as you know, they're not really available in this country. And currants: I've never seen fresh currants for sale, just dried ones, usually in the fall and winter. Right now I'm enjoying all the summer fruits :-)

Do you grow your own gooseberries, Jaga? If so, are they easy to grow?
