Yesterday I had a discussion with colleagues about languages, regional languages and dialects in the Netherlands and other countries and about cultures, peoples, differences, economies and politics. Again the similarities between Denmark and the Netherlands came to the forfront. I didn't started that subject this time. But it was amazzing that after our discussion about similarities between the Danish and Dutch systems and the Danish and Dutch peoples and economies my colleagues came to the same conclusion. One Groningen fellow who knows Iceland, Sweden and Denmark well, said: "We Dutch are closer to the Danish than the Dutch speaking Flemish Belgians, Denmark is the closest thing in Europe we can find in mentality, way of life, their culture and being."
It was amazing to hear someone else, who has a scientific language comparison quality, said that about the Netherlands and Denmark. We had a deep discussion about European peoples, cultures, languages and heritages. Also the historical link between Denmark and Great-Britain (the United Kingdom, the England part of it) was brought up. We talked about the Danelaw, the part of England in which the laws of the Danes held sway and dominated those of the Anglo-Saxons. ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danelaw ). This Eastern Groningen, Low Saxon, fellow was a linguistic wonder to me since he had the talent, gift or wonder that he could understand Icelandic and Danish to a certain extend. Secondly he was a compassionate and nice fellow, since Groningen and Frisian people sometimes have the issue Frisian vs Low Saxon. The Dutch Frisians consider the Groningen people to be invaders of Frisian land, because the Dutch Frisian connection to the North German East-Frisians was cut of by these Low Saxon Groningen people. But this Groningen colleague from East-Groningen loved the Frisians. he considered them the most beautiful of the Dutch peoples. He literary said that. The tall and blond and blue eyed Frisians are beautiful people.
Back to the UK and Brexit. There lies a connection between France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark and partly Germany and the Remain camp in the UK. Why? Because thousands of British people who are against Brexit, who loathe Brexit will leave the UK and go to the mainland. And for financial, economical, trade and international connections reasons France, Denmark (Copenhagen), Germany (Frankfurt am Main, Berlin Mitte - the Financial district of Berlin-, Hannover, Munich, Düsseldorf, Bonn and Hamburg), the Netherlands (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Eindhoven, Utrecht, Arnhem and Enschede) and Belgium (Brussels, Antwerp, Liège, Gent, Mechelen and Ostende) will welcome them with open arms.
Why? Because these Remain people are the creative, artistic, commercial, marketing and public relations (communication) people of the UK. British bankers, stock brokers, business people, entrepreneurs, product designers, fashion designers, the Britest people of Britain belong to the Remain camp. Londeners, Manchaster, Liverpool, Oxford and Camebridge and Brighton people. The Cosmopolitans, the British Internationalists, the British Pro-Europeans. West-European cities love to welcome British money, wealthy Brits, British investment capital, and the international networks of these British people. Danish and Dutch multi-nationals, larger corporations, law firms, Fashion houses, stock markets, Banks and other financial institutions will hire, employ and gladly work with these British people.
These Enlgish folks are their gateway to the Anglo-Saxon and Anglo-American world, the large world of the English speaking nations in the world. Not only the UK itself, but also Canada, the USA, Australia, New Zealand, South-Africa, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, India, Pakistan and other former British colonies.
If the Brexit goes well and the Brits will adapt to it, you can put my scenario in the dustbin, but if the situation of the UK deteriorates, you will see that exodus of British capital and people to Europe. And Copenhagen, Frankfrut and Amsterdam will invite these highly educated, wealthy and capable Western immigrants with open arms. These newcomers will improve the local/regional economies, strenghen the competition position of these cities in the European economical competition between Metropoles, cities and Eurregions.

Pieter It appears in the reality of the wishes and work of Mr. Johnson is working, at least with the chosen path he has mapped out. With these though, has and will be very far reaching in effects to British citizens working and living in the EU zone of states. I wanted to apologize that I have not been able to visit our forum for the last 4 days. I was in Columbia South Carolina. I had a talk there and also a company computer that does not allow me to login to the forum.
I am back home, although with quite a delay.... I will start being active tomorrow, after I get enough sleep.

Pieter I would tend to agree with your Colleagues, for they are not only very considerate, but hold a great deal of empathic understanding. With this do I most agree with them, for we are people over time, a sea people and shaped by the forces of the North Sea, low coast line and weather. With this, our few differences if any are language and nationality. Dänmark was not always small as it is today, but with wars and losses, it has been whittled down to what it is at present. My self am not absolutly sure, for as my family in past refused to talk about it, but my belief is the family left for what ever reason from what was once Dänmark now German Schleswig-Holstein {Slesvig-Holsten} for other then some differences in dialect, their Frisian speaking is very simular to ours. sciencenordic.com/denmark-history-society--culture/how-big-has-denmark-been-in-the-past/1444682Karl |
