Hi Jeanne....I think you might have missunderstood my point also. My point is that the Church has known for centuries that Mary was being worshipped more than honered. They never did anything about it, and i might suggest encourged it. In so far as John Paul is concerned i have a question. If he didn't worship Mary, then why didn't he cut to the chase and give Jesus credit instead. Don't get me wrong, i think thats cute but it also shows a adoration for Mary which has been going on in the Vatican for centuries. Hello George, I think that JP II definitely thought that Jesus was the one who saved him. However, I believe he felt it was through Mary's INTERCESSION that he was saved. Catholicism does have a strong tradition of intercessory prayer which stems from belief in the Communion of Saints. We are always encouraged to pray for each other as an expression of charity. I think that JP II, ever the teacher, did not "cut to the chase" (as you said) in order to teach a lesson. And that lesson was that Mary's intercessory prayer before her son is very powerful. Jeanne
