""PM Tusk: Jaroslaw Kaczyñski's behaviour is utterly irresponsible
14.03.2008
Prime Minister Donald Tusk has described the latest actions by opposition leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski as ‘utter irresponsibility which undermines Polish interests’. He referred to his stand on the ratification of the European Union’s reform treaty. According to Kaczynski’s Law and Justice, Polish interests would be taken fully into account only if the ratification
bill
included a statement on the supremacy of the Polish constitution over EU law and on Poland’s right to leave the bloc.
The Prime Minister said in Brussels that president Lech Kaczynski, in a telephone conversation, declared his commitment to have the reform treaty ratified. Jaroslaw Kaczyñski accused the Prime Minister of conducting a policy of concessions, particularly vis a vis Germany.
Law and Justice declined an invitation from Parliamentary Speaker Bronislaw Komorowski to discuss the issue with representatives of all the caucuses. Its leader explained later that Komorowski wanted to discuss solely the government plan to adopt a separate motion stressing Poland’s sovereignty. The Law and Justice is against such a solution because of a non-binding character of such a motion.
The Prime Minister’s Civic Platform has appealed to the president to play an active role in working out a compromise. ]
The parliamentary debate on the ratification of the EU treaty will be resumed on Tuesday.""
Does Kaczynski not realise that every member of the EU is still a sovereign state, which of course is why we still have a Queen, USA a President and so on - so what is there to get all het up about? Also any member of the EU can cease to be a member if the local government decides so. This is what all the fuss in the UK is about - although every Party, including Labour, included in their election manifestos that there would be a referendum, this Labour government have reneged on giving the British people freedom of speech. I am not surprised at Donald Tusk's comments - those of Kaczynski sound like sour grapes on behalf of his twin!
