It is apparently the result how the Dutch Riot police (ME; Nobiele Eenheid) behave when the Polish Legia Warszawa players were leaving the AZ stadium in Alkmaar, North Holland in the Netherlands, and the trip to speed up and steal the flags.

Jaga,
It is hard for me to judge the situation in Alkmaar in North Holland above Amsterdam, because I wasn't there. What I do know is that both Legia Warszawa and AZ Alkmaar are clubs with notorious Hooligan firms of 'Ultra's', extremely violent soccer fans. Legia Warszawa's Legia's notorious Teddy Boys 95 and AZ Alkmaar's's Ben-Side, Red White Fanatics/Alkmaar Fanatics. That AZ Alkmaar vs Legia Warszawa Europa Conference League Game was a high risk game, because fanatic and notorious Teddy Boys 95 from Legia Warszawa came to Alkmaar and could clash with the extremely violent Ben-Side, Red White Fanatics/Alkmaar Fanatics of the AZ soccer club. To describe the danger of AZ's Ben-Side, Red White Fanatics/Alkmaar Fanatics. These North Holland Dutch Hooligans are notorious in the Netherlands and outside the Netherlands. They are trained in fighting, clashes and battles with the Dutch riot police and rival Hooligans of Ajax, Feijenoord, Ado Den Haag, Vitesse Arnhem, FC Groningen, PSV Eindhoven, FC Twente Enschede, Belgian Hooligans, German Hooligans, British Hooligans, Swedish Hooligans and also Polish Hooligans.
The Dutch riot police, the ME (Mobile United they are called in the Netherlands) have decades of experience with Anarchist extremely violent Autonomen, Anti-Fascist squaters in various cities and towns, violent Harbour workers strikes, violent farmer demonstrations, violent Islamist Jihadist demonstrations, violent Moroccan, Turkish, Kurd and Moluccan demonstrations, demonstrations of radical environmental activists and with Conspiracy theory QAnon demonstrators whom were extremely aggressive and violent towards the Dutch police. This made the Dutch riot police hardened, tough and less tolerant towards demonstrators, Hooligans and soccer fans and around matches. The Poles encountered the rough Dutch climate around Football, and a Police which was pushed to the limit the last couple of years.
The Teddy Boys 95 of Legia Warszawa are aligned with the Midden Noord (Middle North), North Side, Vak-G Hooligans of Ado Den Haag, whom arch rivals are the Hooligans of F-side of Ajax Amsterdam. The F-Side calls themselves 'Super Jews' and the Ado Den Haag Hooligans always sing 'Hamas Hamas, Jews to the Gas' during Ado Den Haag - Ajax Amsterdam matches. Those matches often end in Hooligan wars between Midden Noord, North Side, Vak-G Hooligans of Ado Den Haag and the hard Core Ultra's of the F-Side of Ajax Amsterdam.
Little leave, overstaffing, being confronted with a lot of aggression, violence, threats and tensions pushed many police officers beyond an acceptable limit.
The fact that Poles are Eastern Europeans will certainly have played a role, but keep in mind that at many Dutch matches the Dutch supporters and Hooligans of both visiting and home clubs are dealt with harshly by the Dutch Riot police with a Zero-tolerance policy. Legia Warszawa is a notorious club with its Legia Warszawa Teddy Boys 95 Hooligans. Both Polish immigrants in the Netherlands as Poles from Poland where there. There are problems with alcoholic Poles and Polish drugs addicts in the Netherlands the last years Jaga. Not always the best Poles are over here. Nothing to do with good Poles living and working here and most Poles in Poland, but there is a bad element of 'Low life' Poles, alcoholics, psychiatric, mentally unstable, retarded, drug addicted and disturbance causing Poles over here. And that is a problem for both decent Poles over here and the Dutch population. If polish players, Polish staff and Polish supporters of Legia Warschawa were treated badly that must be investigated. But realise that not all Polish Legia fans are angels. You have violent Hooligans amongst them.

Jaga,
This is the violence Dutch riot police encounters. Ajax Hooligans attack their own Ajax Amsterdam stadium's entrance. For a small country we have an Ultra's/Hooligan problem. A bunch of aggressive West-Germanic people, Netherlanders and Hollanders.

The Algemeen Dagblad (English: General Daily Paper), also known by its initialism AD ([aːˈdeː]) is a Dutch daily newspaper based in Rotterdam. The Legia Warsaw player bus in front of the AZ stadium. © Getty ImagesLegia Warsaw lashes out at AZ in statement: 'Mixing the truth with lies'In an extensive statement in Polish, English and Dutch, Legia Warszawa has lashed out hard at AZ Alkmaar. The Polish club express their disgust in strong terms after Legia players Radovan Pankov and Josué Pesqueira, among others, were arrested during riots before, during and after Thursday evening's Conference League match in Alkmaar.Sports editorial 08-10-23, 09:39 Last update: 08-10-23, 11:57For Legia Warszawa it is certain that AZ Alkmaar is to blame for the disturbances in Alkmaar. Before the match against AZ, hooligans from the Polish club stormed the entrance gate of the stadium and used violence against the police and stewards. Afterwards, Pankov and Pesqueira clashed with the stewards, during which 'medical attention was required'.
Although the two players were released on Friday, Legia is taking the matter seriously. The Polish top club is devilish about the way things are going and in the statement - shown in full below - lashes out at AZ. “These events should have no place in a civilized world. There are dozens of videos of this incident on social media, it is clear who was the aggressor, who provoked and who behaved scandalously, but not for the Dutch.'We are dealing with very serious suspicions that there have been systematic actions by Dutch services against Polish citizensthe Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs"In our opinion, it is crystal clear that the story in the statement from the Dutch side has one goal," Legia Warschau continued. 'Mixing the truth with lies. We are being blamed for the lack of professionalism in the organization of UEFA competitions.”
Legia's lecture: "An hour after the match, a scandalous situation arose in the stadium. The AZ security forces and the police did not ensure the safety of the players and employees of Legia, including the chairman. Those responsible for security themselves attacked many representatives of our club and violated their physical integrity.”
Yesterday, Polish Foreign Minister Pawel Jablonski urged the Dutch ambassador in Warsaw to investigate the events. "I have protested to the ambassador against what happened in Alkmaar and requested an in-depth investigation," Jablonski reported after a conversation with Daphne Bergsma, the Dutch ambassador in the Polish capital. "We are dealing with very serious suspicions that there have been systematic actions by Dutch services and the city of Alkmaar against Polish citizens."
According to Jablonski, Bergsma 'completely agreed' that further investigation should follow. "She expressed her complete willingness to cooperate in this regard. We hope that this willingness will translate into good cooperation between the Polish and Dutch authorities and that evidence in this case will be collected quickly. If it is confirmed that these actions were not isolated incidents, but were of a systematic nature, those responsible will be punished,” Jablonski told Polish news agency PAP.The Mobiele Eenheid (Mobile Unit), ME, the Dutch Riot Police had to take action after AZ - Legia Warsaw. © Michel van BergenThe Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs only confirms that the meeting took place, but further refers to previous statements by ministers about the matter. For example, Minister of Justice Dilan Yeşilgöz reported that she did not appreciate the criticism of Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on the actions of the police in Alkmaar. “I would prefer that he first look at his own club,” said Yeşilgöz.

Before the match in Alkmaar, supporters of the Polish club allegedly stormed the entrance to the stadium and committed violence, which, according to the authorities, injured three riot police, one of whom became unconscious. The two arrested players, Josué Pesqueira and Radovan Pankov, were released on Friday.
Poland, where parliamentary elections will take place next week, took the incidents seriously. Prime Minister Morawiecki said at the informal EU Summit in Granada that he was 'very concerned' about the reports from the North Holland city. The Polish Football Association asked UEFA for clarification.Legia WarszawaThe complete statement on the Legia siteThe events that occurred after the AZ Alkmaar - Legia Warsaw match should have no place in a civilized world.
The safety of the participating teams, especially the host team, is the basis of the functioning of the entire football family. While history records cases of attacks by fans on teams, players, families and those closely involved or fans of away matches, the situation where the host team is attacked by staff of the host and the police remains unprecedented in the history of world football. Dozens of videos of this incident can be found on social media, it is clear who was the aggressor, who provoked and who behaved scandalously, but not for the Dutch side.
According to UEFA rules, the home club is responsible for order and safety in the stadium before, during and after the match. The host's obligation is to cooperate with the police to ensure the safety of the players, representatives of the club delegation and accompanying fans. We don't need to discuss the facts, but the Dutch side seems to question them in their statement, which is why we have decided to issue this statement.
In our opinion, it is very clear that the story in the statement from the Dutch side has one purpose: to mix the truth with lies. Legia Warsaw has been blamed for the lack of professionalism in the organization of UEFA competitions.
We present again the facts and not opinions about what happened in the city and in the stadium:
An hour after the match a scandalous situation arose in the stadium. The AZ security forces and the police did not ensure the safety of the players and employees of Legia, as well as their chairman. Those responsible for security themselves attacked many representatives of our club and violated their physical integrity.
The unwarranted arrest of our representatives took place an hour after the match, when some of our players were not allowed on the team bus, probably due to an alleged threat by Legia fans at the team bus. However, there were no Legia fans near the stadium at that time.
During the preparations for the match, following the publicly announced decision of the mayor of Alkmaar to deny our fans access to Alkmaar, the AZ club requested that tickets be collected for our fans in The Hague, 85 km away. This was a difficult to understand and unusual request, but our club ultimately agreed to this decision, benefiting hundreds of our fans.
In an effort to defuse tensions, we reasonably proposed setting up a second ticket collection point, but this proposal was not favorably received.
The decisions of the city of Alkmaar and the Dutch police apparently discriminated against our employees, players and fans based on their nationality and the language they used. We believe that such actions have no place in European competitions under the auspices of UEFA.
The situation at the entrance of the match, in which fans were stripped of their flags and which led to defensive reactions from those caring for them, was partly due to the aggressive attitude of the security forces towards those taking flags and drums, and was only the culmination of a festival of hostility and disgust shown by the Dutch side towards the Legia Warsaw community.
According to our information, no Legia fans were arrested by law enforcement or the Dutch police during and after the match. The only ones arrested after the match under bizarre pretexts and in violation of all principles of the rule of law and the organization of UEFA events were two Legia players. During the match there was no inappropriate behavior from our fans, no pyrotechnic devices were ignited. It is worth noting that on the night before the match, fireworks were set off in front of our players' hotel, which disrupted the pre-match regeneration and rest. These incidents were certainly not the doing of our fans.
We regard the information in the statement from the city of Alkmaar, the police and the AZ club about the investigation into "possible steps to exclude rivals of this risk profile from European cups" as further provocation. We demand an end to the violation of Legia Warsaw's good name.
This is not the first incident of this nature. We are aware of the importance of safety issues, but we also know that this was not the first incident of this nature in Dutch stadiums in recent times, including the stadium and the city of Alkmaar. Legia Warsaw representatives are in contact with clubs that have had similar experiences. During the match against West Ham United in the 2022/23 season, fans from London, including player families and club representatives, were attacked by the home fans in the VIP stand. The Hammarby IF club had similar harrowing experiences during a match against Twente Enschede in July this year, with a similar “closing of the city for Sweden” taking place.
The AZ Alkmaar club and the Dutch authorities can selectively “justify” the situation as they wish. They can use their city party as a pretext and use accusations to turn the victims into perpetrators, but we are confident that facts and truth will prevail.
As Legia Warsaw, we assure that we will do everything we can to fully clarify this matter. We will defend the honor of the club, its players and employees on the basis of facts and clarify in as much detail as possible the situation, which should not take place in any sports competition.
Thank you for the support we have received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the City of Warsaw, UEFA, the Polish Football Association, Polish and foreign clubs and many well-meaning people.
Legia, always together!
Until Sunday!

Pieter, thank you for doing so much work in this subject. I saw some comments in Polish press that Dutch police is used to dealing with bad crowds so they maybe cruel. You are right that soccer teams are hooligans especially in Poland, Great Britain etc. They do not have a style of family sport watching like it is on the football or baseball games in the US.

The Polish club has also been fined 15,000 euros by the UEFA disciplinary committee.
The reason for the punishments is the misconduct of Polish supporters during last week's Conference League match against AZ. UEFA emphasizes that it only concerns the problems that occurred during the match. A separate investigation into the incidents after the match in Alkmaar is still ongoing.Restless around stadiumThere was already unrest around the stadium in the run-up to the match won 1-0 by AZ, but after the match the flames went completely out of control. Two Legia Warsaw players were arrested by the police on suspicion of assaulting an AZ security coordinator.
Those arrests sparked great outrage in Poland. Deputy Foreign Minister Jablonski spoke of "discrimination against our citizens" and summoned the Dutch ambassador in Warsaw. The arrest of 2 Legia Warsaw players by the Dutch police
