Hubert Smeets -- a journalist from Amsterdam, Netherlands, who got his degree in History and Political Science, fluently speaks Dutch, English, Russian, German and French. He works as a journalist and an editor specializing in Eastern Europe since 1980. Hubert Smeets is also an author of several books on Russian history and politics: 'Aggrieved souls. Freedom in Russia'. (1993) and Heritage of an empire. Fall of the Soviet Union, rise of Russia. (2004).
Now Hubert speaks on his experience as a foreign journalist covering all the events of Euromaidan, Crimea Crisis and current events in Eastern Ukraine on the ground, Informational war and what are some specific facts he noticed about, trends and transformations he could see in Ukraine during last few month here.

The West is more and more divided by an iron curtain inside the society. Even NATO, once a bulwark of free democracies, is split: between open and closed social structures, between international and national approaches, between cooperation and confrontation. A model of nationalistic and authoritarian guided democracy is on the rise. Russia is promoting this worldview with success. In the meantime, millenials all over the place watch this trends, which ar contrary to their interest, but do not act against it. 2018 will be a decisive year.
