Police and protesters fortifying their space at UCLARegan MorrisReporting from UCLAThere’s a large police presence at UCLA now and a handful of protesters outside the camp cordon. Both sides are fortifying their space - police setting up metal barricades and protesters setting up wooden boards and protest signs.
It’s difficult to see into the camp now - police are keeping us about a 100ft back (30m), and protesters won’t allow access from back entrances.
After clashes overnight, it’s relatively quiet. Some protesters outside the cordon said the students inside the camp sprayed them with bear spray overnight.
In between the police and protesters is a large screen showing pictures of the people kidnapped by Hamas in the attack on southern Israel on 7 October, which prompted Israel's military operation in Gaza.

Dear friends,
I wonder whom these attackers arem, the men dressed in black and wearing balaclava masks? Betar USA, the Jewish Defense Leage (JDL), Kahanist forces, rightwing Christian Zionists or others? I don't like either side. These Pro-Palestinain protesters are to fanatic, militant, one-sided and threatening for American Jewish, Israeli and Chritian students, academic debate, discussion and exchange of arguments are 'blocked' if you force one sided opinions "From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free"on students, university communuities, university campusses, universities university professors, teachers, tutors, decans and staff.
This is what you get when you block universities, Block Free Speech, block free academic debate and force your onsided view on anyone. I don't endorse these Men in Black, but they were provoked by the radicalism of the Pro Palestinian camp, with Hamas supporters, the terrorist Palestinian Marxist PFLP (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine) supporters amongst them with their PFLP affilated Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network ( samidoun.net/ ) behind them, and also Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah supporters amongst them. Not all of these protesters are extremists, fanatics and Palestinian terrorism supporters, but some of them are.
College campuses across America have devolved into open displays of support for terrorism and antisemitism since October 7 2023. The barbaric attack by Hamas on Israeli civilians and soldiers has resulted in widespread intimidation of Jewish students and energized groups like Students for Justice in Palestine, which openly sympathizes with Hamas. For example, federal agents arrested a Cornell junior who threatened to massacre and rape Jewish students at his school’s kosher dining hall in late October. Earlier that month, a Cornell history professor described Hamas’s deadly assault on Israel as “exhilarating” and “energizing.” Some of the antisemitism on American campuses emerges from an ideological climate in which terrorism is rebranded as “resistance.”
Let me be clear, as a human being I am saddened by all innocent lives, but many Western media have forgotten what happened in SoutherN Israel.
The attacks began early on 7 October with a barrage of at least 3,000 rockets launched against Israel and vehicle-transported and powered paraglider incursions into Israel. Hamas fighters breached the Gaza–Israel barrier, attacking military bases and massacring civilians in Gaza envelope Kibbutz settlements, including in Be'eri, Kfar Aza, and Nir Oz, and at the Nova music festival. The attackers killed 1,139 people: 695 Israeli civilians (including 36 children), 71 foreign nationals, and 373 members of the security forces. About 250 Israeli civilians and soldiers were taken as hostages to the Gaza Strip, including 30 children, with the stated goal to force Israel to exchange them for imprisoned Palestinians, including women and children. Reports of rape and sexual assault also emerged. Hamas officials denied the involvement of their fighters.
