As many of you know Casimir the Restorer (Kazimierz Odnowiciel) moved the capital from Gniezno to Krakow.
Now my question - why did he do that? I mean armies of which countries destroyed Gniezno ... therefore the capital had to be moved to Krakow?

What a marvelous chase / hunt for a horrible rainy Saturday morning 1038AD, Czech prince Boetislav invaded Gniezo, sacked the Cathedral - removed the attributes of the Polish Crown (?) and moved the relics of St. Adelbert to Prague. If I am interpreting this all correctly... Casimir the Restorer (Kazimierz Odnowiciel) was married to Dobronega sister to a Prince of Kiev. It made more political sense to look toward the East for allies than to the West. Krakow became the capital in 1040AD.

Gardenmoma you are a winner!!! Thank you for digging out. The capital was moved to Krakow because Gniezno and Poznan were destroyed by Czech prince

Congratulations, GM!
By "banner" do you mean the moving line? If so, use the little "M" button on the top row of tags on the reply form.
