Pawi It probably had dak wood walls, but I can't remember them, possibly because we were sitting beside the windows. The little restaurant was outside the castle across the external courtyard and you had to go up stairs to it. Does that help?. Leslie Yes, that is the same one. We went there once ot twice but never liked the interior. Probably it hasn` t changed much since communist regime`s times. Tha`t funny you say it was outside the castle. I think it is in the castle. It`s within the perimeter of the walls. ha ha ha ha

Quite correct Pawi, but I think of the castle as the main building that shut at 1700h, 5 minutes before we arrived there. I have never been inside the main building, but I did enjoy around the outside courtyard, going into the little turrets around the walls, and looking over the wall down to the French-style garden below. Have a look at my Webshots for one or two photographs of that castle and others, and particularly two in the UK - I think Conisbrough Castle is the best one I have ever visited (and that's quite a few) --- community.webshots.com/user/ellray100Leslie

Hi
Guys, have you noticed that NONE of US citizens responded to this topic with his/her local prices.
Are they afraid, or maybe ashamed?

The courtyard of the main building looks like a miniature of Wawel Castle, with nice arcade corridors.

The rest of our American friends didn`t because they don` t want to make us ashamed of our little miserly spending ha ha ha ha ha.

Pawi Yes please I would love some more pictures of Pieskowa Skala, particularly any of the inside, but any will be most appreciated. It depends how many you intend to send - either on this site (suggest start a new thread titled photographs?), by email to me - my address is in my profile, or do you have an image collection, such as Webshots (it's free until you get to a certain number of images included in total). Dziekuje bardzo Leslie

Yanc Maybe they lost the thread of the discussion, with all this talk of dark restaurants. But - no one in Poland answered Jim's question about health insurance (see page 1) ;D

Thanks Jim.
What I don't understand is, why diesel fuel is more expensive than gasoline. It is easier to distillate heavier fractions from crude oil, and cheaper oil may be used for distillation. Maybe it's the matter of taxes?
As for health insurance - if you are tourist - buy yourself an insurance at your local agent. If you want to settle here - franly speaking I have no idea if you could apply for our public health system insurance, but If you are working in Poland and pay taxes here then you already have an insurance (it is paid mandatory by your employer at rate of ca. 7.75% of income). Of course you can buy yourself an private insurance, so called "basic basket" starts at about 100PLN/month, however it doesn't cover surgeries. I am pretty sure for equivalent of 300$ you will have a full service insurance.
And, you poor guy, you have to buy water at shop and carry it home. We have water pipes here ;D
Just joking of course. Realy aprreciate your answered.
So long Yanc
PS. I have two more questions - how much does it costs to buy a house in SD suburbs area? And how large the average house is? TIA

Yanc, I made a mistake and did not delete your Diesel price. Ours is about 10 to 20 cents higher then gas. It was cheaper but when we Americans started to buy diesel cars/trucks the price went way up . It used to be about half of gas prices.
I do plan on settleling in Poland when I retire. So $300/month for health insurance is cheap. Here its about $800 a month if you are not working. However I do get it from Social Security but it is no good in POland. I have read that if you apply for permanent residence in Poland you can use the public health system. Do you know if that is true?
My wife likes the bottled water the stuff from the pipes is not good here in California.
The average price for a house in the suburbs of San Diego is now $620,000.00 The size of this house can be from 1800 - 2400 square feet.

Do you know if that is true? That's affirmative, I just googled it for you. For about 40$ you may have a so called "nonmandatory health insurance". It is the same kind I have as person working and living here, although mine is mandatory. This is for citizens of EU blah blah and for among others "foreigners staying in poland with granted right to settle in Poland permamently or temporary". (I don't know how settling in Poland works and what are the requirements, but i can make some research on that if you want.) Back to insurance - for 40$ you will have your insurance, but frankly speaking our public healthcare system is not good. If you can afford this, I advise you to buy a private insurance togeher with public insurance. Public is good in case of emergency: accidents, heart attack, but planned or long periods treatment is much better in private clinics. There are some more things on this topic, but my english is too poor to correctly translate all the information. I wish I could be more helpful. Yanc
