We had quite a lot of snow Friday evening and Saturday, they predict even more this week. When I will have some pictures downloaded from my camera I will let you know. I worry a bit since driving is not easy in these conditions so if you would not hear from me in the next days....

We had snow last week on Thanksgiving, but unfortunately most of it has melted since it got too warm yesterday. Please drive carefully in the snow and stay safe!

Oh my! sounds as of a lot of snow! Do you have the winter treads installed yet? Traction is a confidence builder.

Boy a skiff, that can be dangerous! Other drivers seem to lose their good senses by taking too much risk in their driving.
We were hit with skiffs in various areas in the North West here, but, not in our area of Edmonds. But of course, the television people played it to the hilt with scare tactics of '"heavy snow storm watch".
Some times it is my suspicion that the news people have investments in snow tire companies.

Jaga, we would all be utterly lost without you! Watch out for black ice when driving! Is Idaho pretty much snow-covered for the entire winter? Here we can get winters like that.

Susan,
thanks. The beginning of the winter is the worst because it is still warm, lot of snow, some snow can melt and change into ice.
They predict more snow for the whole week. Today we saw many accidents on the highway and even when I was driving home. I was really scared. I was 30 minutes later than usual. I took a bus at 4 and I was home after 6.

It stopped snowing in the evening and the clouded sky became amazingly bright. In some parts of the sky it almost looked as the Northern Lights - there was definitively a diffraction of light into blue and pink - probably also a reflection of the lights from the downtown.
IT looked so amazing. I even was able to make some pictures. Pocatello, the town I am working in looks incredibly today because the sky is clear (some thick clouds on the horizon) and the mountains (this is a nice town in the mountains) are clearly light! I wish I had a camera with me!

Wow, are you guys ever able to actually see Northern Lights where you are? Or are you too far south? I've never seen them.

Susan,
people are stating that you can see Nortern Lights, but I did not see it here. THe latitude of IDaho is not that much north as Poland and I never really saw the northern lights in Poland.
Now, why it was so bright at night? The sky was covered with clouds but there were snowy clouds, quite whitish, I am not sure what phase of the moon are we in but it might be that the whole reflection moon-clouds-snow on the ground - since the air is really clear here we do not have pollution like in Poland. I guess, it is probably less polution in Idaho Falls than in Polish mountains rural areas. There were some colors seen - which was amazing but this was caused rather not by the Northern LIghts, especially since the sky was covered but by reflection adn diffraction of the downtown area lights from the clouds. You need to remember that Idaho Falls where I live is on the same altitude as Turbacz (the highest summit in Polish Gorce is only just over 1,300 m high) - so the clouds because of the low pressure are very close to the ground!!! We have wonderful sunsets here

Pocatello, where I work is situated in a valley a bit lower than Idaho Falls but it has much nicer scenery. Look here:

I actually did a couple of pictures with a digital camera borrowed from the Department when I was on the Hill - in the Accelerator Center, I will show you some of the pictures tonight. Here is one more picture from the web: The mountains are actually much nicer in winter because in summer they are a bit "nacked" - not too much grows there

Nice photos, Jaga! I am glad you are safe and just talking about the beautiful scenery where you are.
No snow here, but it has been 60 degrees and raining all day.
