Dear All, Happy New Year to Everyone The New Year in Poland started already and I did not have even any time to watch Polish news. It seems that the folks there got lots of snow! I am working on updating the main site, Nancy sent me some cool images For the last couple of hours I had to unpack all the luggages and clean the house a bit

That it may be a healthy, succesful and creative year for all of you!
In Holland they are optimistic about the economic possibilities this year. I hope that this year will be a positive year, with less disasters, and human loss than in 2005.
How were your parties last night, did you partied to all night long? I had a wonderful party with friends from 21.00 hours until 1.00 and from 1.00 until 5.00 in the cities concert hall, with hundreds of people, tell me about your American, Polish and British evenings and nights! Did you celebrate with your family and/or friends?

Pieter Mine was a fairly traditional but North of England and Scotland New Years Eve (Hogmanay). From 10pm to about a quarter past midnight I spent with a group of friends in our 'local', and saw the New Year in there in a merry state. Then I left them there as I had five 'First Foot' commitments. This is where the first person after midnight allowed into a house has to be dark and, preferably, but not essential, a stranger. The 'First Footer' brings with them a piece of coal for continued warmth (of all sorts) throughout the new year; a small quantity of flour to represent ample food through the year; and a bottle of whisky to give a drink to everybody there, for good spirits through the year. The host then provides the First Footer with a whisky (or wodka). This I did at the five houses, and arrived back at my house at 4am - I think it was 4 am and I think it was my house! It was a good Hogmanay - my best for a long time. Last New Years Eve my divorce had just come through and I didn't feel like celebrating too much - away from Poland anyway! And previous years my then wife was a bit of a Puritan and frowned on such goings on! Now I can do what I want. Does anyone else have traditions like this? Leslie (hic)
