this is a poem for you, I am pretty sure that you recognize
Stoi na stacji lokomotywa , Ciêzka, ogromna i pot z niej splywa : Tlusta oliwa. Stoi i sapie, dyszy i dmucha, Zar z rozgrzanego jej brzucha bucha

ooooh, that sounds like a "wiersz" by Julian Turim (name ??) I translated some of his poems once as a language lesson. Asked for one of his books for Christmas! ;D

Frank,
Nancy was right. This was a famous poerm by Tuwim about the locomotive - a very nice one. You have lots of rhymes there because in Polish language we have really lots of different types of rhymes! In English it is much more difficult to create a poem that rhymes than in polish - partly due to the conjugation/declination

Jaga, Nancy isalways right LOL. Not always (just ask my husband) but I am right about smalec. Just ask Leslie, he started a whole thread on it in Bella. We were talking about Snow in St. Petersburg, and Jerzy said they had to drink vodka and eat lard to stay warm there THEN LESLIE said ... . He even started International Smalec DayI think the whole smalec thing was the funniest thread(s) I ever read in our forum. but DO NOT CALL ME SMALEC!

Lelsie, the smalec thread is in my list of top 10 all-time classics in the Polish Culture forum! I think I will copy and paste it to a document. Hmmm, maybe an article for the website ...
