I bit the bullet and purchased a new vehicle today. Since I haven't had a car payment since 1992, I am having a physical reaction to this act. (cold sweats, shaking, halucinations etc). Now I will become very austere and probably never drive it. Woe is me - - woe is me (gasp) I can't breath very well when I think what my registration will cost.

Know the feeling. I just paid my last payment this past month on my car. Last time I had a car payment was about the same time (1991). Although I had no quams about payments I did develope a driving phobia ....but it wore off. As did parking it next to no one in parking lot and heaven forbid those that parked next to you...... that to will wear off soon enough. Congratulations. So what did you get Audi...BMW....please don't tell me an SUV

No, it wasn't an SUV. However, I replaced my 1991 Oldsmobile Silhouette van. It had 277,000 miles on it. It was like an old shoe that was very comfortable.
The replacement is a 2006 Chrysler Town & Country Touring van with the stow and go seating.
I will probably pick it up today.

Skeeter; How many years ago was it that can remember that you could buy a whole house for what you paid for your new car

JJ That sounds like a very nice car, congradualtions!!! With over 200.000 miles on your other rig, it sounds like it was time to replace it. Besides, not much can take the place of that new car smell!! Charles

Franek, My first house was a rambling New Englander and it was purchased for $16,000.00. Went VA and at the time oil was only 58 cents a gallon. The 1st winter I spent about $1200.00 on oil. It had a converted coal burner for a furnace. You can see a photo of the vehicle at this site: www.automotive.com/2006/102/chrysler/town-country/touring-minivan/1611/photos/colors/magnesium-pearlcoat.htmlThe color is Magnesium Pearlcoat. It's almost a Marine green and it has a khaki interior. Right up my alley. Couldn't believe how much vehicles went up in price.

A thousand dollars a year for 76 years return. Can you imagine what the material costs were when you can build a house for $200.00.
