due to the protests against the treatment of Tibetians:
Wojciech Lubawski, president of Kielce, south-central Poland, has decided to cancel the Chinese Festival of Flowers, Lanterns and Kites.
The aim of the festival was to make the city's inhabitants more familiar with the history and art of China. The festival was already scheduled some time ago, but in the wake of recent pro-Tibetan protests in Poland, local media started a discussion whether it should be held. President Wojciech Lubanski said that he views this as an attempt to involve the city of Kielce in the Chinese-Tibetan conflict, stressing, however, that the most important reason to cancel the festival is the interests of children, to whom most of the festivities were addressed.
A pro-Tibetan demonstration is to be held in Kielce this Saturday and Lubanski stated that children might not comprehend the situation.
During a press conference Lubanski officially confirmed that Kielce's project will not be presented at the EXPO 2010 in Shanghai, as only the larger cities in Poland were chosen. (mn)

I don't think the Olympics should be used as a venue for Politics. Even in ancient times enemies respected each other, stopped their wars for competitions. Maybe the people of today should do so also. The Olympics has nothing to do with Politics. All these people that have trained for so long and hard are now affected. This is pure selfishness and nothing will come of it except bad feelings.

We have had two Olympic boycotts in the last several decades? They seem to have accomplished nothing; perhaps our 'protest' should be limited to Bush skipping the public opening ceremonies. His attendance will seem a stamp of approval of the Chinese oppression of Tibet. If he wants a junket before he leaves office, he can quietly attend a few of the venues with the actual competitions.
Yes, I agree, keeping politics out of it seems appropriate. We don't need to give our stamp of approval to oppression.

China is a soviern nation. In as much to the Tibet as an occupied country by the Chines.
For what has this to do with the Olympics? Or the Chinese Festival of Flowers in Poland???
It is nothing. It is deplorable as a manner of disruption of social international events for the pleasure of people.
There will always be groups of disruptor's for any event. It is the matter of resolution that matters in the vehicle used for make harmless of such events. In other words, the vehicle of resolution used, may be of a very violent means, or if properly used in deployment, will be some what of little notice.
In as much to the common interest, this is the Olympics as being of this period of time, happens to be in China.
For this reason, the heads of state of each respective nation, should be, and be required, to honour this event for above and beyond of each political reasons of currant events.
For what grounds of condemnation are there? The Americans are present holders of war in Iraq and with this, as masters of occupation..then also as masters of occupation of that of Afghanistan??
For where in this scenario, is the grounds of condemnation of Chinese occupation of that of Tibet?
OK, OK, I am not an activist, for I do not care or have any regard to these countries. I am employed. But: if not in the employment of my country, Hmmmm, opportunity rises and shines brighter then the sun shine of the horizen........ There is much money to be made with the pain and suffering of others...

We have had two Olympic boycotts in the last several decades? They seem to have accomplished nothing; Kai It was funny to see how the olympic torch played sick and hide with the protesters. I am not for using olympic to cut carriers of new sportsmen. But I wish Chinese let Tybet to have some autonomy. I still remember when I met a young Chinese Baptist minister and he told me that... Tibetians are just dirty people
