While surfing the net. I came upon a very interesting site about Poland,s part in WW2. Since I am not one to post long post,s. I am going to place the URL so you can read it.. Thanks! Having toured most of the battlefields in Poland, the article makes a great overview.
As to the charges on horseback, there really is a distortion that has never really been cleared up. They were not used as cavalry, but were mounted infantry, that dismounted and used the horses to mearly get from place to place! Once they got to the particular piece of terrain they wanted, the dismounted and fought as infantry - sorry, no charging with horses against tanks!
Now, the dirty little secret few people know about. In 1939, the bulk, 85% of the German forces were horse transported to include most of their artillery. Only the lead armoured divisions were mechanized, and not even the entire unit! A lot of the dead horses you see in the early photos, are German, not Polish!
