Americans Citizens: (especially those "z polskiego pochodzenia)
Since visa free travel is justifiably an important issue and concern to our Polish brothers and sisters, if you haven’t already, why not take some time and participate in the process by writing some letters. That’s right, a small gestures, but write some letters. To you Senators and Representatives in Washington. To those on the Foreign affairs committee, and the President himself. Ask them to do the right thing by our historic ally, give some history. Do you live in an area or state with large Polish population? Entice the recipient with the potential influx of votes from grateful Polish Americans. Perhaps the forum members, so partisan in their political beliefs, can set aside the rancor and actively get involved. It won’t happen all by itself, which is apparent. Since the end of WWll, both Democrat and Republicans have run the White House and had full control of the House and Senate, yet none have assisted Poland in this matter. Since democracy in Poland, some 18 years ago, each side has held the White house for considerable time (10 Republican, 8 Democrat), yet this issue still exists.
Maybe our representatives don’t think we the citizens really care one way or the other. So let’s tell them. (But I‘d leave the cheap shots to the forum, it’s easier to catch flies with honey). Couldn’t hurt could it?? I began my draft two days ago…

Piwo, This is an excellent idea. Recently I heard that Poland will be excluded from the 2007 green card lottery because they had too many visas granted over the last few years. The whole situation makes me angry when I think about how the Poles have helped us when we asked them, but the US does nothing for them in return. I should channel my annoyance into a letter ... I don't know if it will have any effect, but as you say, it cannot hurt. PS. Sorry for the delay in answering your post, I tend to avoid the political folder.

So do I. But since I offered the suggestion of the folders creation, and my post really belonged there and not in the "what gift would you want from Ameryka" tread where I got the idea, I felt I had no choice but to put it here....

I would like to encourage you to write some also to US Embassy in Warsaw and US Consulate in Krakow. It is there where the refusals are going on. The US law says that visa free travels would be possible if the numbers (percentage) of refusals go below 3% (and it has to be maintained for some time) Perhaps your letter would force US Embassy clerks to grant visas in cases where they regularly wouldn't. If this is a "slomiany ogien" on your part email them at least!!!

I understood the expression, and that is why I had the face. As for myself, I will take the opposite approach. Instead of a hay fire, it will be more like Ice melting. I wish to write a letter with some facts and will not sound like an angry request. To the specific recipient, the appropriate "carrot"! What motivates any politician to act? Self interest, whether real or perceived.

So you mean Piwo you are going to tell your political representative in US Congress the conditions of your vote/support? or What type of carrot do you have? Is it universal?

So you mean Piwo you are going to tell your political representative in US Congress the conditions of your vote/support? or What type of carrot do you have? Is it universal? Well, if my Representative does not have a large Polish constituency, then one voter who threatens his support will have little effect. Perhaps with this person, one concentrates on the "do right" angle, and provide documentation, or argument that may pull at one's sensibilities of right or wrong. The president cannot run again, so a nation of happy USA Polania will not benefit him, but if one can demonstrate how it will help his party, then that angle for him. The Democratic Machine rules in Chicago, but lost a little support last election. Perhaps demonstrate that a happy USA Polania and all those votes could "swing the tide" in the next election. And if your Representitive is a Democrat, tell them they will be able to tell their people that THEY put pressure on the Prez/congress and got this for them. The people won't switch from voting their strait party, but the argument, and the chance of the big score could persuade some. And in our system, Congressmen and Senators have some influence. They tell the Chief that unless they deliver, THEY will lose their jobs, and the party hurt. It goes with either party... Yes, I'll tailor my response to the audience. So it won't be done tonight, but when I can sit down and really concentrate on it after assembling some facts. Show them how its really in their best interest to do this, and now you have people working FOR you. Any help from those who fully understand the problem will be helpful, since I must research this from scratch right now.

Hi Folks I am not sure if I fully understand the problem: be it a travell visa, or resident visa. How ever though, these will be the people you must do business with. travel.state.gov/visa/visa_1750.htmlCharles
