Hi,
I'm still trying to locate information on my family from Poland. This is my current info on the families:
My great-grandfather Wasyl "Basil" Kocielko was born in Lubno, Dynow, Poland 1877 - 1881 to Dymitr "Matt" Kociolko and Ewa Buczyk. He had one known sister named Tekla, who went by Tillie. Originally, my great-grandfather spelled it as Kociolko, but it changed after he came over to Joliet, IL. The family was Lemko/Ruthenian. I haven't had luck with contacting the church in Lubno. Could the records be destroyed due to Akcja Wisla?
Wasyl married Helen Pilip, who was born in Lubno on February 12, 1888 to Wojciech "Albert" Pilip and Katarzyna Urbaniak. Her known siblings were Marianna "Mary" Solomon and Frank.
Another great-grandfather of mine was John Czerniak, who was born Jan Czernek in Leki, Borzecin, Poland in 1893 (exact date unknown). My grandmother was born in Chicago, IL as a Czernek, too, so the name became Czerniak some time after 1918. According to immigration records for John's sister Mary Klimek, she left behind her mother Marianna in Leki. I imagine she was John's mother, too, unless they were half-siblings. I don't know how to contact the church in Leki.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Koach,
Have you tried searching the LDS files? Have you just googled the surnames to see what you get? Have you tried writing to the central Archives in Poland for the town of Lubno?

Thanks for your response.
1. No, I haven't checked the LDS records. There's more than one Leki in Poland. How can I be sure that I have the right records?
2. I've googled my surname many times.
3. How can I get in touch with the central archives? Would they have records even if the church destroyed theirs?

Koach, You need to have a general idea of where your relatives came from to find the right town/church. Do you have naturalization/ship passage/birth records? Have you checked Ellis Island for the approximate date your relatives came here? You need more then just a name. You will get frustrated unless you have a better idea of when and where.
