Censorship over the decades is featured in a series of photographs at einestages.spiegel.de/external/ShowTopicAlbumBackground/a2724/l0/l0/F.html#featuredEntryby the German magazine Der Spiegel. "Party Music" by the American Hip-Hop-Band The Coup is one of the covers that was removed from circulation;it had the misfortune to be published a few months before the attack on 911. There are some 37 examples, generally the uncensored version appearing before the revised version. There are a few exceptions, however, but even for people who do not read German following the logic should be no trouble. There were a few I was familiar with, and many that were new to me. This covers not just US censorship (or sensitivity to the US market, as in the case of the band showing off in a military tank for the European version in 1971, but coming with a very different cover in the US due to Vietnam War sensitivities. Another example was a 'KISS" album with a sharp "SS" style reminiscent of WW II; this was replaced with a standard block "SS" for the album in Germany. Kai

Good demonstration of conflict in the entertainment business and their market. Yess, some of those I remember very well for many were darn good bands.
For those with out knowledge of German: The title {Bitte Kein sex in der Badewanne} Means {Please no sex in the bathtub} a rather narrow minded attitude in my opinion.
With the KISS group, yes indeed that was no so well taken, but darn, it is just entertainment and not to be taken as literal. But, perhaps I am not so sensitive in those areas of our past and currant remembrances.
And yes,,,Boney M they were very good. They also put out a album for Christmas that was very excellent..
Many of the American hip hop groups and that of the Brits, were very popular with many of us in the 70s. It was very good music and a head tall from those of many of our groups.
The Stones were incredible in as much to the Beatles, it was so amazing to hear such music as to be not imagined until of then.
But not so much as amazing as the 50s were with {Johny Cash} he was always wearing of black clothing with his songs as of {I will walk the line} and of Elvis Presley, that man was fantastic and not to forget of his Army time spent in Germany. It would so seem of the moment of any news publication as soon as placed for sale, would be purchased by the ladies.

Kai & Karl, Yes, I remember many of those album covers. My mother made me return the Beetles one with the depiction of dead babies all around them. Now that I am an adult I can understand her actions. One that wasn't on the list was Alice Cooper's "Love it to Death" album. Remember the original cover? Cooper had on a trench coat and had his thumb sticking through the front, below the waist. Of course you know what it was supposed to depict. I have that album and cover to this day............... Slipped that one by Mom.................

Yes, you are very correct, Alice Cooper was missing. He was what we then named as Grundge, for his theatrics, he was just wonderful, but that was in the 70s...I think I remember of also he threw blood over the stage and kept snakes about him. I think those snake buggers were real and alive, just was never sure. Karl

I had heard Alice Cooper owned some streetrods but was un-aware he was an enthusiast of Classic autos {Now is that just something, Alice Cooper a auto enthusiast!} The man is a person of so many talents.. And he seems so crazy with his out landisch outfits and stage life. But then, this is entertainment and he is very talented on stage, and as it proves to be, off stage as well. The Barrett Classic Car Auction and also that of the Pebble Beach Concourse is very famous on both sides of the Atlantic. Imagine that though, Alice Cooper the Classic Care enthusiasts? Karl

Karl Yes the same as Scotsdale and Pebble Beach. Without the makeup and outfits, he looks like a regular guy.... I love his music.
