For the past couple of days and more I have been running a program that was downloaded from the Kim Komando web site. The program was downloaded from CONVAR and is supposed to recover lost or deleted photo files. In my case I tested the program on GIF files and it found a lot of them: as a matter of fact, it found files that I thought had been deleted when I restarted my computer. The program will find JPEG, GIF, RAW and a few other extra files. Before I ran the program I received the warning that this program might take a while to run, in my case the program ran for three days but I did recover a whole bunch of files. While the program was running, I was able to browse the web and read my e-mail. I did not send anything because I did not want to mess up the search. There are a couple of programs at CONVAR that will find lost or deleted files and folders. The programs are FREE! and the one I downloaded worked great. Gone but not forgotten.

WOW... gonna get back on Kim's site and check that out! ;D Piwo. I have downloaded many programs from her site and have never encountered a virus, bug or malware. The program download is in the "Photos" section of her site. Good luck and plenty of patience is needed when you run the program. You can still surf the internet while the program is running but I don't know about sending or posting.

I've been on her site before, but it was a while ago. Heard her on the radio one Sunday morning and then logged onto her site. Sometimes, you just forget about a good thing because you get so bombarded with others.... I have a drive I'm going to try and run her program against...
Thanks!

Piwo. You can sign-up for daily tips, tricks, news and a Saturday newsletter on her website. I scrapped all the built in security programs on my computer and downloaded all the replacements (free) from her website. The programs I downloaded do a much better job and are simple to use. I like those programs so much that I may buy the full programs. BTW, some programs are starting to look at Symantic (Norton) products as spyware. You're right, this is a good site to visit.

;D Nancy and Charles. No problem, I just hope you like Kim's site. There is a lot of good info and downloads there and you can subscribe to her newsletters and listen to her on the radio.

aha... norton is working successfully in the background in my computer right now. somewhere a trojan came aboard and Norton caught it. I usually do a manual inspection later to assure everything is as clean as I can get it.
Now to check out Kim's place.

Kaima.... I always do the "Security Tango". Check out www.asknick.com and just follow the instructions but make sure you do as written not out of context (step 2 1st or step 3 , 2nd) Nick is our local "Kim Komando". He has his own radio show and had a computer show on local channel. He teaches computers at RIT and does the security for our phone company here (Frontier). And he is funny and a real nice guy that knows his stuff. The security tango is to find deep hidden viruses and to keep your machine clean. Also he suggests to run adaware and spybot weekly or as often as possible along with the ST.
