Oh, my God!!! Jaga, being a hostess in my house, I feel deeply sorry for whoever has to dust all this stuff I would rather think that such rich decorative style is typical for the British apparently I'm wrong.

Oh, my God!!! Jaga, being a hostess in my house, I feel deeply sorry for whoever has to dust all this stuff I would rather think that such rich decorative style is typical for the British apparently I'm wrong. Zooba, I am afraid to guess if this is typical in America or not. I want to say it is really extreme, but I know too many people who collect ... kram is a good word in German and in Czech for 'junk'. Is it also understood in Polish? The fellow seems to be an artist and can match the worst of the kitschish houses I have seen, most all by women who love that stuff. The stairway looks particularly dangerous with just a narrow band in the center you dare to step! OK, so mostly it is women I know who go in for this cutsy stuff (a nice slanderous word derived from cute that usually sends a woman's blood pressure sky rocketing), and it is the men who go in for more masculine clutter and kram, tools, things that will be useful 'someday' and other toys. 'Boys toys' or perhaps 'Boyz Toys' are terms often applied to motorized vehicles and the smaller stuff we like. I am still undergoing a major cleanup and throw-out phase for my 'stuff' since I recently downsized to about half the living area when I sold my house and moved into a condominium flat. Kai

Guys,
I did not have a feeling that it was kitch at all, although I know what Kai talkes about. The guy keeps all in good matching style. It does really remind me a Viktorian style, although I may not know exactly what a victorian style is. These toys are not cheesy, they are nice toys. I know what kitch is, and this was not really a kitch. I do not know how he does it but the things were not dusty and it was quite cute there.

I know what kitch is, and this was not really a kitch. . Jaga, I can't claim to know what kitch is other than I use the term on folksy and cute stuff that is in my opinion, overdone. Wikipedia states it a bit differently: .... Because the word was brought into use as a response to a large amount of art in the 19th century where the aesthetic of art work was associated with a sense of exaggerated sentimentality or melodrama, kitsch is most closely associated with art that is sentimental;... I also apply it to Alaskan art that is stereotypical of mountain scenes, gold miners, and such themes that are terribly common up here, each nice by itself but something that overwhelms me rather quickly. Yes, with the fellow's wall paper and crowded hangings and collections of stuff, I may use the word in a non-standard fashion, but that is how I use the word. It is interesting to see in any case. It is almost a surprise to see the fellow wear a tie-died t shirt and load up on that style. Kai P.S. The world does require many types of people and many tastes, views and passions. While I don't share this fellow's, that is fine with me. If I were to visit Picasso and see his works all over his house and studio I would probably be equally ... happy to live without the 'excess' of taste concentrated in one direction.

I would of only a small comment for it would appear there is much critical concerning this fellows taste.
It was my impression of a fellow with a very much large personal collection of Christmas toys and decorations as a hobby. Then once yearly, presents out his collection for the Holiday period of time.
Then, out of the goodness of his heart, to share with others with opening his house to public for their enjoyment.
Peering beyond the decorations though, I do like his wall covering and some of his basic furnishing. For this was/is {for us of the old world} our manner of house-whole furnishing, but with a painting of some value of that we would afford.
It needs be mentioned though, the fellow is a very brave sort to wear such a shirt!
Perhaps my opinion is not so well received, if so, then please to have patience for this fellow of cleaner of bilge, hull, barbarious member of the unwashed and un-circumcised.
