Dickens was more than just a writer, he was a social commentator and did what he could to draw to the public attention, many social injustices. Not a bleeding heart liberal but a man of conscience. Regrettably the only audience who mattered in those days were the wealthy and they did not really care because the issues he raised did not affect them except in so far as they were the employers who grew rich by paying starvation wages, by charging their workers exorbitant rents for squalid properties and by forcing their young children to work 12-16 hour days. The quote you mentioned was from one of these employers (Scrooge). He was not a prophet but a man who was decades ahead of his time in social terms; a man with a heart in heartless times.

nice that you reminded Dickens. I read a couple of his books, they are good. He not only had a talent but he had a big heart and saw injustice around him.

Charles Dickens was a super hero of his day. He would be revered if he were alive today.
