Pieter talks about Warsaw Uprising, I also have something from Polish history in WW II. My neighbor (Polish-Canadian) gave me a book to read and it is so interesting that I am half way through. This is a wonderful book-relation about the WW II in Poland, the fate of Polish church, priests and nouns and of course the most important - how Polish nouns were able to save many Jewish children. Very interesting and objective report, many positive, some negative encounters - I guess, I cannot really reflect how wonderful this book really is! It gives a real perspective into the life of Poles and Jews in WW II. Aditionally, when I hear about children - it is even more touching Please, try, one can buy it very cheaply on Amazon: www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0781804094/polishculture-20/Your Life Is Worth Mine by Ewa Kurek it also gives a bit different perspective from Polish/Jewish side

Holly, Carl,
this is indeed a very good book. It gives a general perspective on how the war looked like in Poland but it also shows the details of how the nuns saved the kids. It is not extremely politically correct but the author tried to show a balanced opinion

Jaga, I'm glad the book is not too "politically correct." Soviet Communists originated that term. Carl

I finished reading the book. It was really excellent. My advice - the best is to start to read this book not from the first page but rather to read two last chapters - with memoirs of the nouns who take care of the children and the children's memoirs. Later on go back to the beginning.
The memoirs from the personal perspective are the most fascinating, but the whole book is wonderful, I just do not want anybody to give up in the beginning finding out that the analysis may sound too scholarly (I personally like this types of books!)
