Speaking of books that you MUST NOT MISS, this novel is superb: IN THE MEMORY OF THE FOREST by Charles T. Powers tinyurl.com/llj2rIt is set in a post-WWII Polish village, and while variously described as a "mystery" or "murder mystery," it is far more than that. It is exceptionally captivating, and the author is a compelling storyteller. Sadly, he wrote only this one book and died at an early age. You can buy this very cheaply through the used book dealers via Amazon, so please give it a try. From online reviews: Evocative descriptions of the Polish countryside, memorable characters, old-world values coming up against the modern age, evil and redemption, and an engrosing story line - this book has it all. === This book was haunting and moving. In modern day Poland, after all of the history that has trampled through it, layers are exposed and the unexpected occurs. The young farmer through whose eyes the story unfolds seems to learn along with us the true horrors as well as the noble acts of redemption that form the history of the town and of his own life. These characters breathe, and along the way the characters of the "disappeared" breathe with them.

This is really a great book - excellent reading on many levels. I highly recommend it. Available used through online booksellers.
I'd love to hear other opinions of this book.
