Polanski is a great director although he has a difficult character. I also believe that some of his movies are just too grotesque and dramatic like for instance "The tenant". I could not even watch "Rosemary baby" the first time. The "Pianist" is actually much more moderate, but maybe Polanski was already old enough to do it. One of the most favorite of Polanski's movies, also a bit diabolical (I also wrote the interview of this movie in Amazon) is a Bitter Moon. did you see it? If not, try to buy it or borrow from the library. It is really worth! www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00008YLV7/polishculture-20

I saw both and liked both. I saw Rosemary's Baby and thought that was very scary at the time. In today's world with Freddy and Jason lurking it is tame.
The very first Roman Polanski movie I saw was Repulsion and my introduction to Catherine Deneuve whom I'v admired since. As for the movie I was too young and this movie was disturbing to me. I understand this was his very first movie.

I have several favorites, Bitter Moon, Repulsion (with a young Catherine Deneuve www.imdb.com/title/tt0059646/photogallery ), Nóz w wodzie (1962), The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967), Rosemary's Baby (1968), Chinatown (1974, with Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway), and The Pianist (2002). I can't tell which I like best, because I look at his whole work. Bitter Moon made the biggest impression with it's French, British, American cast and weird story. I loved the actresses Emmanuelle Seigner and Kristin Scott Thomas. Pieter

Pieter...I loved the movie Chinatown. I did not realize that was a Roman Polanski movie. I saw it when it first came out and at that time was intersted in the movie not the producers. So I guess I have seen 4 unless you come up with yet another that I have seen but unaware a Polanski film.

Thanks Pieter.. I see now I have seen more than I thought. I saw Frantic, Tess and I am going to see if the library has Ninth Gate and Death of a Maiden..both look good. I do not remeber ever seeing either advertised. If you can com up with a sound clip for Laura i Filon I would love see if I ever herad this music before. I understand it is a famous Polish Folk song. I found one site but MNortons killed it as it had a virus. Have to be careful with those files especially foreign ones.
