www.buffalonews.com/We had some power down around some of the suburbs and neigboring areas but I am still snow free (thank God) Only saw some cars covered in the morning on their rooftops. Streets were clear. The thruway was backed up for 10 miles heading into the city of Buffalo. I can't believe they got hit so hard so early.

We were watching this on the television news. What a hard ship for people, and so early in the season! Even though a person knows the driving will be difficult and dangerious, a person still must be at work what ever and how ever. I have heard that the winters in your area are normally very cold with deep snow, not sure if this is true as having never been there. Perhaps a hard beginning may be a good ending Charles

I just heard that it will be another week before many regain power. Many pople's houses have flooded and they are without heat, some without water, power. It will be a long time to get over this one as they have lost many trees. When we had our ice storm about 15 yrs ago we lost many beautiful old trees which the city is noted for. When the leaves come off you can still se remnannts of the damages down trees.
Now I hear that there was an earthquake in Hawaii. I hope Jaga is okay or maybe on her way home by now.

I didn't know Jaga was in Hawaii.
I was able to call my daughter last night at around 9:PM. Everyone was alright and there was no damage to her house. She said the house bounced around a bit but no damage. The Big Island (Hawaii) is where most of the damage is.
They don't have any power as power companies automatically shut down when sensing a earthquake. Their hoping for it to come back on soon.

Chris, A week without power? You had better come down and see me! I miss snow and cool weather but not that much! I wonder what winter will be like this year? And Jaga in Hawaii! I couldn't believe it when I flipped on the TV last night - we were relaxing before falling asleep and Wayne tells me I shot straight up and "yelled" Oh my God - Jaga is in Hawaii!!! He was a bit grumpy (I guess he had fallen asleep) until he figured out what I was worried about... I do hope she is okay .... When is she scheduled to be home? Hope she is okay

Here in Alaska you can bask in the warm weather. If you want snow you have to head far up north or high on the mountains. Just in the last few days have we started to get frost, and the newspapers are reporting another el Niño winter, giving us a 60% to 80% chance of a warmer than usual winter. Snow predictions are independent of el Niño, and they remain 50-50. Rats.

Hopefully Jaga is OK in Hawaii, since she is in Honolulu and from what I heard they did not get any damage. ... the quake centered around the Big Island. The only time I was in Hawaii, we were going to drive all around the Big Island, but could not because the road was blocked by a lava flow.
