Wilders' Palestine statement angers JordanPublished on 22 June 2010 - 3:36pm The anti-Islam Freedom Party of Dutch MP Geert Wilders has provoked anger in Jordan. The party leader said in a speech last week that " Jordan is Palestine". " If you change the name of that country, the Middle East conflict would be solved and the Palestinians would have their alternative homeland," he said. A similar statement can be found in the Freedom Party's election manifesto. The party won 24 of the 150 seats in the Dutch Lower House in the 9 June general election. ClarificationJordan's Minister of Media and Communications, Nabil al-Sharif, compared the Freedom Party's view to that of the orthodox right in Israel and has asked for an explanation. The interim chair of the Senate Commission for External Relations, Marouf Bakhit, rejected the " fanatical" statements as being " in contradiction to international laws and conventions" as well as " a blatant infringement of the sovereignty and independence of Jordan as a member state of the United Nations". H.E. Dr. Marouf Bakhit, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Jordanian Senate and former Prime Minister of JordanMr Bakhit emphasised that Jordan will continue to support the Palestinian people in their struggle for an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and for the return of all Palestinian refugees. UndermineMarouf Bakhit added that statements like Geert Wilders' do nothing but undermine attempts to achieve peace in the region. Abdullah Latif of the Islamic Action Front party denounced the words spoken by the Dutch Freedom Party leader. He said utterances like these by European leaders do more harm than good because they only " drive up tensions between Islamists, secularists and everyone who wants the region to renew without violence". © Radio Netherlands Worldwide

Pieter I Shant not laugh, I promise, but perhaps a little{ ;D ;D} I think perhaps your Wilders is a hot rock, not just in politics, but with some Arabs with little to no knowledge of the the land they know as {Jordan}. I think perhaps also, Mr. Wilders is quite smart, but in a group of supposedly highly intelligent people who sit with smug self confidence that perhaps have not read their bible with understanding. I would tend to believe, Mr. Wilders has. It is quite pitiful of those many many Arab people, are in the same leaky boat of ignorance. For they know little to nothing of the land they occupy. Those lands we know at present as popular presentations, are just what they are, invented names of convenience. Seriously... For it would seems as similar, the Arabs at present occupy. For it began some what with the Romans to irritate the Jewisch people, they invented the name as: Palestine, and this become a convenience for description, it was then known as: Palestine, for every place and person, needs a name.. But long before the Romans, it was the land of Canaan. The area had no common name up to the time of the Romans, but was formally comprised of many separate City States, each independently governed, but formed together in separate alliances to form a common people. Much later in time as to be taken and governed by European powers. The French to their pleasure, provided the name of Lebanon, and so, it is known by that name to this day. The French though, never invented name: Lebanon, for it was of the land of Ceders as presented upon their present flagg. It was originally known as :Phoenicia and Land of Purple, for on portions of the shores at that time, was a mollusk that was the known source for the dye used by royalty {Royal Purple}. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LebanonThe British to their pleasure as fore mentioned, provided the name of Trans-Jordan to provide an area name as a convenience. This later changed to Jordan to provide indepence to the pleasure of one of the desert sheiks in the area. www.cdn-friends-icej.ca/isreport/july01/history_palestine.htmlwww.palestinefacts.org/pf_mandate_transjordan.phpGaza, if one is to read the Bible, is an area once also occupied by Canaan, and provided a name of a invading sea people {possibly from Cypress} as being {Phiistia} or The land of Philistines. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PhilistinesSo as you see, perhaps Mr. Wilders should be provided some credibility to his knowledge. For it would seem, in the land of politics, would by nature, be named: The Fools Paradise But of course, we are a people of knowledge, and would never stoop to that degree as to call the kettle black, as when it is known that our pot is not so white Karl
