Karl, did you notice any interesting Lent and Easter tradition in Mexico? Jaga The Mexican people are very religious, in their own manner...For they follow as it would seem, the requirements as set by the Catholic Church, but in their own respective manner. One expectation thought seems to appear as consistent is the use of colour and customs of each respective indigenous group. For there very many tribal indigenous peoples in this area. much more then would be of expectations. For of those that come to mind as I write this: Yaqui/Tolteco/ Maya/Azteco and Zaptec...{I was to enlist the assistance of some lady employees from this area for the list}. The latest parade and celebration was of:Cinco de Mayo {5 of may} of the defeat of French Occupational forces by the Mexican Army. I understand this is not so important in the North, but as it was fought in this area, it means a great deal.. The following is a consumer url, but it indicates some of the colour of customs. With the various tribal people contributing to the parades and celebrations, is to stop time for a moment to take in what and where these each were to take place. For time seems to stop whilst immersing ones self with dancing and singing in observations. www.ehow.com/list_6062775_mexican-holidays-festivals.htmlThe surround area is composed of volcanic derived soil and quite rugged if not careful. It is important whilst investigating the out land areas, for it is not so unusual to come across a stone shrine built up of carefully stacked stones. It is best wise not to even photograph the event, but simply step around it and go about what ever. For the most part, the people are of natural friendly. A smile and kind word travels very well. Of this, it is for not to speak of the least, but do not drink water or eat of the local food. Even with the army needles of inoculations received, my self have suffered some nasty food reprisels....It is not that these people are dirty or nasty of habits, it is just the area that is strange to Europeans not before exposed to the little fellows we have named as: virus/bacteria/and parasites. We become a virtual diner of opportunity for them, if allowed. Even more then to be expected in the arid Syria and Uzbekistan. The area even to the endangerments as of above, is very rich in natural history and of the movement of peoples from the Central and south American areas before and during the Spanish Conquistador time. For there were wholesale murdering in the name of the Church in that time against the indigenous Indian tribal areas. With this as an abomination by the then religious order, of destruction of a great deal of advanced information as gathered by the early Indian civilizations. They were very advanced in astronomy and earth science. It would be so easy to become total immersed in study and follow of each human trait as demonstrated by these various wondrous tribal migrations. The Mexican Government is very much aware of the importance of the above, for it directly is their history and provides some very real and currant protection of existing and currant revealed artifacts that is and/or will be unearthed. For it is next to impossible to obtain any permit for authorized digging other then direct attachment to one of various Universities trained for such studies. Karl
