I saw today Michael Moore "Sicko" movie. This film was not yet played in the cinematheatre here but somebody had a copy. Good movie, although Moore had a strong point of view and argument. He compared American system (with examples) with Canadian, British and French. We had a lady from GB who actually was working for 10 years in British health system and she agreed with his opinion.
The only problematic part was the last part about Cuba. I believe that the treatment of the Americans in Cuba was a bit staged....
I still believe that socialized medicine has more to offer than the American health system...

I have heard about the film, but I haven't seen it. I couldn't get through "Farenheit 9/11" - even though I am critical of Bush (especially war in Iraq) it was loaded with so much propoaganda - and serious matters and arguments were mixed with silly ones - everybody burps sometimes etc. I couldn't get through the book, either. But "Sicko" sounds interesting - I'd like to compare other systems to the Polish one.

Put this in the "for what's worth category" but all the medical staff were talking about "Siko" when I was in the hospital - both times! They all gave the movie a huge thumbs up. They thought it touched on the major issues in the medical community in a fair way.

I am very confused with this {Sicko} is this a cinema entertainment? Or, documentary? A comparison of various medical programmes? A comparison of different national medical programmes? A slam against the American medical profession? Or is this a national medical movement?
Or, is this a political movement improvised by this Mr. More as a vehicle of his own purpose as a self promotion stunt.
I am not attempting to be stupid, I am confused. As I normally do not watch the cinema, I have little idea of what Hollywood is up to.

Thank you Holly, for you are a dear heart,,this for sure. I am not sure as for why I missed that, as I had run up a search of this subject. But, then, I have not been doing so well this week in the brain section of thinking. Although, since as we are on subject of American health care and mention in the url of Canada. I have been curious. Even though I do hate to see a doctor and so try to stay out of their offices. Whilst seated in the waiting room, it is interesting in observing the questions of the receptionist and the answers of patients or potential patients. The primary 1st question always appears to be the health care Insurance information. My conclusion is: Those with out health care insurance, do not see a doctor. As this could not be the entirety of the representative population, so where are the remainder? For there is no smell from dead bodies of disease, or line up of people with out insurance on the out side of the medical buildings, so, where are they? Is there an underground medical facility that goes unseen by the common population? For I have observed some whilst in the supermarket grocery line, with amounts of grocery food items in large roll shopping baskets. Those people hand to the check out people, booklets of what appears to be coloured coupon denominations to the check out Lady. They were overly too small to be Canadian currency. But, I have never observed this in the medical office. I want to tell you this: America is a darn strange country!!! The url you so kindly forwarded to me, made a great mention of the Canadian medical system. As it depicted, is also what I had observed whilst working in Regina {Saskatchewan}. As our office is located in the same building used by the RCMP {Government House}{this area is the RCMP training academy}. As people tend to do, we compare with one with the other, our provided services including of health care/pension/clothing expenses/travel/work///to a certain extent//money and salary. For it is interesting as those RCMP people were given fairly much the same as we are. My conclusion from my experience is this: The Americans are being screwed by their own government. They {working people} work too hard, for not enough money, they suffer from their own health care insurance firm's with overly high cost rate coupled with payment out of pocket rates per doctor visit which in self, should be covered by their respective health care insurance for which they pay for service. Or, perhaps I am wrong and deficient in correct observation. Or, and just stupid in understanding. Charles

I haven't seen this movie but I have heard all that have speak well of it unlike his 911 movie which seemed to draw lot of negativity. I give the guy an A for at least writing what he deeply believes in whether it is popular or not.
