A friend of mine told me about these very interesting books about the world. I bought the series of 7 books from 1950 and one from 1930 about the central Europe. This old one talks about Poland, Germany and other countries of our region. It has really old and beautiful photographs and interesting, politically incorrect text. here is a link: www.amazon.com/Lands-Peoples-World-Color-Complete/dp/B000EMAWRA/polishculture-20I really recommend you to read it! It is wonderful analysis of the world 50 years ago.

Those books do have a good sound as both of educational value and factual. For it is strange, but perhaps I am deaf, but the term of {Political Correctness} I have heard only in America....for I know these people are not stupid, but what are they afraid of?

Charles As an addendum to your last post in which you said you had only heard 'Political Correctness' in the US. it is very strong in UK almost to the point that you are in danger of being picked up by the law if it is strong enough and it is written. Every business has to be careful. Did you know that 'Gollywogs', the black dolls for children are banned as not being 'PC' - it is so bad that, unless you are just talking among friends, you have to be careful what you say. The world is going mad! Leslie

Charles, Leslie
here are the examples of political incorrectness. I just have in front of me the same book but in different edition. The titles of the same articles were changed from 1930 to 1950. Here how they are:
1930: IN THE HEART OF ARFICA - among the Cannibals and Pigmies of the Congo
1950: IN THE HEART OF ARFICA - Among the Forest Dwellers of the Congo
++++++++++++++++ 1930 BORNEO-How the Bornean Savages Use this weapon
1950 BORNEO-Its forest folk and Head-Hunting Dayaks

Thank you for providing illustrations of offensive material that is deemed as {Political Incorrectness}. Even though these are very correct titles accurately describing currant and past events occurring within our known world.
For the following is absolutely accurate:
1930 {In the heart of Africa-Cannibals and Pygmies-Congo:
This was currant a few years back in The Republic of Congo. Rebels were actually killing caught Pygmies and eating them, yes it is true...simply committed out of meanness. This or simply hack the caught families to death with machetes and leave the body remains laying in the bush for the birds and animals to scavenge.
1950 {Head Hunting Dayaks} is a tribe in Borneo, simply one of many.
They were the subject of some of my university Anthropology studies. They will wage inter tribal wars with some of the losers, killed and eaten in a ritual manner. In this manner of being eaten, the conquering individual obtains the strength and soul of person eaten. Some times the heads are skinned out, smoked and displayed as a trophy. This practice is illegal by their government and out lawed as a practice. But, it still is practiced on the quite.
Under this sky, I have no idea as to why this should be considered as an Political Incorrectness taboo. For it is real life.
I do not believe these people are stupid as to label such information as a taboo {stupid is as stupid does}.
But I would suspect it is a fear reaction for protection of the individuals sensitivities. For many folks have a need to believe they live in a fail safe world of protection from all harm in our world of constant conflict/television images direct from the death/destruction of the battle field to the living room. And not to mention the love of real-action video games of violence and commercial engineering of instant death by the finger touch of the players hand.
These is the only logical line of reasoning I have to offer. For I see this as similar in this local society currently as practiced.
I observe also of a very well practiced sensate general middle class society, with a high need to be entertained and ownership of recreation vehicles of an expensive nature. The intrinsic needs of required pleasure of obtaining the newly introduced electronics with little regard to the high expense price of these adult toys.
It is interesting.
This past week, I was occasion to view some recent photos of remains of suicide bombers in Iraq. The photos were marked {not suitable for public view as offensive}. These are not particularly pleasant to view, but, it is our world we live in, this is the reality. And this is what man is doing to his/her fellow man.
I do harbour some very serious doubt of the rational of these people.

Charles,
have you been in Congo? Yes, I agree that it is not easy there. I am sorry to hear about the photographs from Iraq.
