Kentucky Amish Convicted for Refusing Safety Emblem The Kentucky Amish have a 17th century lifestile Via Religion Clause, the Louisville Courier-Journal reports that a district judge rejected the religious freedom argument of 7 Amish men who claim that a public safety law requiring a bright emblem on the back of their buggies violates their beliefs and is discriminately applied. The men are members of the Swartzentruber Amish sect, who do not believe in using the bright orange and red triangles that state law requires be placed on the back of slow-moving vehicles such as tractors and buggies. " They were certainly disappointed," said their attorney, William Sharp of the American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky, in an interview yesterday. " But they also knew this is just the beginning, because we will be appealing the decisions." nos.nl/video/330314-amish-veroordeeld-wegens-weigeren-reflector-op-kar.html

Crime Mugshots: Amish Edition Eight members of an Amish sect who were ordered jailed by a Kentucky judge after they refused to pay fines for failing to affix orange safety triangles to their horse-drawn buggies. The men, who were booked Monday night into the Graves County jail, refused to pay the fines on grounds that their religion bars them from wearing or displaying bright colors. Jailed for misdemeanor contempt of court, the inmates were provided dark-colored jumpsuits in place of the standard issue orange coveralls. The defendants were hit with a range of time in the county lockup (between three and 10 days) by District Court Judge Deborah Hawkins Crook. While members of the Swartzentruber Amish sect will affix reflective tape to the rear of their buggies, they eschew use of the bright safety triangle, which they consider too modern.

Pieter
It is most amazing of these people, for they on one side of the Roman coin, live in the world of today, whilst on the other side of the same coin, live in a past century as if escaping reality.
This people though, are incredible farmers, it would so appear they have the ability to grow corn on a rock as if it is normal..
These religious orders though, should never be scoffed of, for they carry with themselves, the discipline and courage of their faith to their order and them selves.
The Amish, Mennonites, and in Canada {BC}, are very similar to the Doukhobors of Castlegar {BC "British Columbia"}. The Doukhobors are descendants of Ukrainian and Russian immigrants from the Czar Russia. They are most famous as being the rifle burners for refusing to fight as conscription solders of that time. Whilst in Canada, as protest against an unpopular tax against their farm property, they burnt their barns in protest.
