We, too saw the Nutcracker Ballet several years ago. The ballet was put on by a college that our son was attending at the time. He performed as the dragon in a dream. Altho we did not see his face, we knew he was under the costume.
Occasionally our local PBS(Public Broadcasting System) will air several of the fine ballets and operas for the holiday season. In the past years, we-rather I-because husband fell asleep watching-saw La Madame Butterfly. Granted it was not "live" but if it's the closest thing I can get to something live, I'll watch it.
One needs to have an appreciation for classical music so the ballet dancers actions and the music sync together. I was raised on classical music-my father would play "his" music rather loudly. His music was the 1812 Overture, Victory at Sea, Peter Gynt Suite, Tchaikovsky, etc.
During my grade school years, I played the viola in an orchestra and clarinet in a band.
The orchestra conductor wanted me to drop the clarinet and become more serious with the viola. Eventually I stopped playing both instruments, but the love for classical music did not die.
I break out my records-yes records and play some old classical favorites-like Mozart.
Driving in my car, I play the classical station-with it cranked up-LOUD!
I have to hear those violas and cellos! But then again, I listen to rock & roll loud too!
