dies yesterday at 90 one of my favorite Clark quotes "The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible."

I have read quite a few of his works over the decades. He came to our college to speak one time and gave a fascinating talk. I remember him as predicting satellite communication in 1947 ...
However, one web quote says "Arthur C. Clarke is remembered as the inventor of communication satellite, an idea he first expounded in a 1945 article entitled 'Extraterrestial Relays.' Clarke's professional writing career spanned over five decades."
More recently I remember reading some science fiction by an unknown, obscure author. At the same time I was reading one of the John Grisham novels, and it was quite obvious that the Grisham characters were quite two dimentional, paper cut-out personalities, while the science fiction was populated with very lively, three dimensional characters.
the best place to hide is at the ends of the universe ...
