The World Passport is issued by the World Service Authority, an International Organization founded in 1953 by Garry Davis after his address to the United Nations in 1948. The World Passport is now recognized on a de facto basis by 172 countries, and has assisted ten thousands of refugees and paperless travelers worldwide to escape from war zones or other life threatening environments. Over 950,000 World Passport holders from all walks of life have successfully used the passport to obtain immigration stamps or residence permits in dozens of U.N.
