Thanks gardenmama for posting. I looked at the nutritional content and saw 560 - 620 mg of sodium and that sounded like a lot. Perhaps it isn't as I don't normally look at the labels for such, but am in tune with it now because I believe it is the salt that is distorting the taste of the final product. It's one I will certainly bookmark!

08/30 Home again ;D and in my own kitchen... The chicken soup base that I use is Minor's - which is available in no added MSG and low-sodium. Here is the link: www.soupbase.com/view.asp?cid=24GM

My mom was watching a cooking show last week and said that this chef said that of all the 'prepared" broth's or stocks, he preferred the Swanson's low sodium. So I bought the chicken and the beef. You can actually get a 1 cup serving of beef broth with 440mg of sodium, vs the usual 700-900 mg in most others. We sampled it and it was not too bad. I'll have to try a quick batch of Barzcz Czerwony using it as the base, maybe watered down a tad. Here's their link: www.swansonbroth.com/ourproducts.aspxI'm still looking for the Knorr, but don't have time to go driving around looking. Hopefully it will just materialize in front of me at the store next time

Well guys I asked my mom the other day how she makes hers and she said she does not use beef stock to make borsht. This is the only way I have ever had it (well most of the time) and it is the way I like it too. Sometimes she will put in smeitana (sour cream). This means I do not need to find the best beef stock out there. I am home free. ;D
