Hello all, Happened to be a local grocery store Monday when a fellow from a local distributor of Polish foods was stocking "their" shelves. This distributor carries the Adamba line of soup mixes. Here is the link for distributors in the US www.adamba.com/Distributors_Page.html; and in the northeast section of NA (my region): www.adamba.com/Norteast.html. They suggest you call your regional distributor to find out in which stores they stock the product you are looking for... One can also access and download a complete product list in a zipped folder from this site. They carry: WHITE BORSCH, RED BORSCH, ZUREK - SOUR SOUP as well as Mushroom and many other soups and concentrates. I've bought and made the mushroom and added fresh mushrooms (very good) and bought the white borsch and zurek (sour soup) for friends as I do not like either. Our store does not carry the "red borch" so I can not help Sir Leslie there...if I come across it, I will buy several packets for him. The young man restocking the shelves said that though they do not put the red borch in my store now, there is a possibility they will do so in the future. Hopefully they will...shelves were pretty bare after weekend shoppers, so there is a desire for these products in our locale. It was interesting going into the grocery early on a Monday morning as most shelves are being stocked by distributor representatives and one can ask a few questions. One can also see what products sold well over the weekend as well as watch new displays being installed ;D Heavens...small rewards for oneself after a very early morning trip to the dentist BTW...this company does not distribute rose-hip jelly GM

Unfortunately there is nowhere in Boise the possibility to buy this soups. Fortunately soups are usually small and whenever I go to Poland I bring enough for the next year or even more. I wish Polish soups became so popular as for instance Mexican or CHinese soups. I am planning to take to Poland some eggdrop and tortilla soups with me since people there do not know it and I also love them

Sir Leslie will have his "zupa w poczta" within the hour. Now, interestingly, I found out that the Winiary cwerwony barszcz I purchased in Chicago was not the same as the Winiary czerwony barszcz I purchased this weekend. On was "tradyczynja" (spelling could be wrong ) and the other was not. A look at the ingreadients and the traditional had more stuff in in. So, there are differences even within the same brands When I next go to this small sklep, I will take a digital picture of the dried zupa rack (with the owners permission of course) and you can see the many instant zupa he has. There are a goodly amount! I may try the Knorr brand tonight, and give a report.

John Just seen your posting - I can't wait to receive and make what you have sent me. When I was in Poland recently for 9 days I had barszcz twice each day, in different places, each with a different taste - they were all better than the barszcz I make myself!! You are so kind. I hope you included your costs, otherwise I wouldn't dare ask you again!!!! Leslie

I adhere to the $5 rule: re-imbursement is never considered under this ammount! (Petrol here is currently $2.89 gallon, US) If one of these soups strikes your fancy, or perhaps the 2nd Winiary type, well, we will purchase a quantity of them, and then we'll talk of it. First let's see if the barszcz is smacnzy or not!

Sir John of Barszcz You've got a deal. And let me know if there is anything in the States that you can't get and I may be able to in UK (I wish!!!). Hey, if I could persuade other UKers to like barszcz we could set up a thriving import/export business! Sir Leslie of potential Barszcz

Sir Leslie, I have just now completed my bowl of Knorr brand czerwony barszcz as I returned home at lunch time. It's ingredients were very similar to the Winiary that is also on the way. I would rate this one a "touch" less salty, but without having both bowls side by side, I don't know that there was a difference. For me and my UN-schooled Barszcz palette, they were both "tak smaczny"!
Next up: Winiary regular! Perhaps during the world cup game that Germany plays tomorrow at noon local time here, (my friend at work lives 2 minutes from work) I shall make myself a bowl and forward my findings. So far, at least in the "instant world", I like this stuff! ;D

I realized I have appetite for a good (or even mediocre at this point) gulash. Being too lazy to open a cook book, are there any packets of spices that will give me the flavor that I want? I looked in one store only, so far. Odds are against me. Most ethnic foods in Alaska are either Mexican or Asian.

Kai That is really interesting given the close proximity to Russia, and the remaining vestiges of Russian influence. I would have thought some affinity for Russian or at least Slavic cuisine would have survived. I'll look in this little store next time out as well. Who knows. I know the owner travels to Chicago once a week, and I'm sure he could find what you're looking for, provided it exists in the form you are looking. If I understand you're looking for a packet with all, or at lest the critical seasonings for a batch of goulash. So maybe we can merely ask him to keep his eye's open next time when picking up spices or seasonings.
