Just this past week, ads from local pick-your-own-fruit farms have appeared, advertising the beginning of strawberry season. There are many small family farms around here where you can pick your own strawberries. Unfortunately, the season is short and I don't think my family and I are going to have the time to go picking this June, but here's a recipe I like to use when I have lots of strawberries around.
Strawberry Freezer Jam
4 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and crushed (you need about 2 pounds or so of whole strawberries) 4 cups sugar 1/4 cup lemon juice
In a heavy saucepan, mix together the strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice. Stir over low heat to dissolve the sugar. Increase heat to high, and bring the mixture to a full rolling boil. Boil, stirring often, until the mixture reaches 220 degrees F (105 degrees C). Let cool til sligtly warm and transfer to freezer-proof plastic storage containers. You can also refrigerate this jam (should be eaten within a week or so if refrigerated; will keep in the freezer several months if airtight).
I've never tried this particular recipe with other types berries, but they would probably work fine.

Yum - strawberries have been shown to be one of the earth's perfect foods (I'll find the linnk if someone really has to know the details - who cares, they are delicious.)
My favorite recipe:
Cut up fresh strawberries over a piece of light sweet cake. Top with fresh whipped cream.
Yum!
PS. Please note the jagoda motif of this website and forum ;D

Yes, strawberries with just whipped cream and plain cake, or just whipped cream alone, are great.
Duh...I totally missed the jagoda motif connection until you pointed it out!

Another great way to serve is making a strawberry sauce and serving over sponge cake with a bit of whipped cream.

;D I like strawberries but recently I started itching after eating them. I think I may have a slight allergy to that tasty morsel.

Bob I think it's the sugar. Put clear honey on them and a little single or whipped cream - I bet you find a difference.. L

Czec Les. Here in Virginia our strawberry season starts during the early part of April and there is a big Strawberry festival in the Pungo area of Virginia Beach. Strawberries are so common here that instead of Dandilions growing in our lawns we have wild strawberries that are treated like weeds. I will give your suggestion a try and see what happens. All of our supermarkets have shortcakes (plain little tarts) and Vanilla Waffers and buckets of strawberries. Strawberries are as common as seafood dinners in my area (had a shrinp and crabcake dinner at a seaside restraunt yesterday). Thanks for the advice. Skys are overcast today, so there is no observing tonight. ;D
