I wonder what the various sects (some of them out of this world) will make of this event? Is it a message that in most countries on Earth now the general culture is violence and the message continues that if this maintains, something of this nature, but much larger will occur? Or is it just a natural phenomenon in which lightning usually strikes the highest object in its vicinity? Leslie

What a beautiful photo! It's not "Jesus" that is being struck, but rather Jesus in a show of His controlling power over Nature! Statues are not God. Statues remind of God! When a statue known in the whole world is struck by lightning, it should be a reminder to the world that something important is about to happen. God, Who knows that all the world will notice this event, uses signs as these to warn about impending calamities or disasters. I wish I could be more specific, but I am not all-seeing. The Kosovo folly is one possible calamity waiting to happen. When some obscure envoy, Martti Ahtsaari proposed independent Kosovo in 2007, he was hallucinating. But the U.S., mindlessly, bought the hallucination, and so did the European Union! Now the gene is out of the bottle. Who is to say that the Kurds and the Chechens will not want to follow suit? And what about the possible civil war, or world war, which the Kosovo independence may bring? I have been always for a negotiated partition of Kosovo as the only solution! My hope is that the Security Council will see the light, I mean light ... and lightning!

I think this lightening strike is just plain bad luck. A year or two ago in a southern US state ( can't remember which one ) a Church was praying for safe keeping because of recent tonados that had been afflicting the area. As they were praying, a tornado came along and wiped out their Church!! Crap luck. Don't think God had anything to do with it. If he did, well, never mind.

George, Was this church an evangelical house? If so, then God had a lot to do with it. Hell fire and damnation for those sinners. I doubt they had any clue about luck. Moral of story: while praying for safety from tornados, do so in windowless rooms or basements.

We seldom if ever know the precise rational behind God's acts. His ways are inscrutable. The freakest accident I recall happened in 2004 or 2005 in Italy, where a woman was praying at the foot of a huge stone cross. Out of a sudden, the cross tumbled in her direction killing her on the spot. I was uncomfortable with the news about this for a long time. Was she praying for death? I doubt. Even if she did, that wouldn't be how God would respond. Perhaps, in ways to us completely unknown, God saw some enormous benefit to her soul by ending her life there and there. But events as these remain a mystery to the human mind and teach us to be humble in what we think we know. In a way, they also test our faith, making it stronger if it is strong, and weaker if it is weak.

Your right Freetobe, serves them right for not belonging to the right religion. Of course i know your only pulling our chain. Nathanael. I wish i had a more lighthearted responce to your responce. That lady who got her brain crushed by a heavy stone cross. Why couldn't have God taken her in a less bizzare way. You know, heart attack, sudden stroke, or maybe ( drum roll ) dying in her sleep! What benifit in having her crushed by a religious artifact. That is , unless he or she ( God that is ) has a weird sense of humor. Does make you wonder doesn't it?
