Boise girl catches 333-pound halibutBy Sierra Oshrin Published: Jun 18, 2015 at 3:27 PM PDT BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) -- 10-year-old Lily Hornish loves fishing. So her family took her on a trip to Ketchikan, Alaska, in the hope of catching a halibut. But the shy angler wasn't expecting to catch one so big. "It was the first bait down, then my pole was tugging," Lily said. "I started reeling it in and then my dad helped me. And then a big fish came out." A big fish that weighed 333 pounds, to be exact. Lily's parents, Bill and Erin, described her as persistent, and dedicated to the sport. "She's always loved to fish. She's the first one out to get her pole, and the last one back in," said Erin Carver, Lily's mother. "And she will, she'll fish sun up to sun down. She's relentless. Doesn't matter if anything is biting there or not. If she sees it or thinks there's a fish there, she's going to work it," said her father, Bill Hornish. Up until now, the largest fish Lily ever caught was a Grass Carp from her backyard. But after a catch like that, it's no wonder she and her family plan to head to Alaska again this year. But she isn't the only one who reeled-in a big one. Her 12-year-old brother, Carson, who stands at roughly five feet, caught a fish nearly as tall as he is--52-inches. As for now, the Hornishes plan to share their halibut with family and friends in order to make room for the salmon they expect to land in August.
