The kids did not have school here in Idaho Falls and in many other regions of Southeastern Idaho. The temperatures were from -16 F up to +5 F (about -30 to -15 C). But the winter is beautiful here - and it is so white. Probably the winter is the most beautiful season in Idaho. You can see our house and our street and this beautiful blue sky and white roads:

Jaga, I was about to ask you for some photos, but here they are. Thank you. I think you shouldn't complain - your house and 'Idaho Siberia' looks so nice, 'fresh', and so many light. We are living in semidarness and although it is very warm (14 C) the wind is strong. For comparison I enclose the photograpg og my street done at the brightest hour today, which is noon. See? Enjoy your winter, you can save a lot on coffee

Wojtek,
thanks for posting the pictures. You have wonderful old trees on your street! But you are right, it is a bit dark there. I do not complain about a winter in Idaho. I think, the winter here is the most beautiful season of the year. I am glad I was able to post the pictures. We had some problems with our camera recently.

Jaga I can almost hear the crunching sound of the footsteps in the snow and see the puffs of air as one is exhaling. Reminds me of some winters many years ago as they once were.
Buj...I love the tree lined street you live on. Rochester is also lucky to have some great tree lined streets. We have some very old trees.

Jaga, that snow is sure pretty, but it looks a little too cold for me. I showed the pictures to my wife and it brought back old memories for her. She grew up in Wyoming and winter is the thing she misses the most.
Her favorite photo of her childhood is one of their house covered completely by a snow drift, with only the chimney and a small tunnel to the front door showing. Makes me glad I grew up in a semi-warm climate. I like a little cold weather , but it doesn't take much to be too much for me.

RDY,
Your temperatures match mine in the Banana Belt of Alaska: 11 Degrees on the right side of 0F. It is a rather comfortable temperature and good for preserving the snow!

My heart bleeds for you all with all that snow, etc, etc, etc. Outside my house today we have blue skies, little wind and a temperature of +8 degrees C. Shall I send you some of it? Leslie

When I come in from outdoors feeding the sheep I have a pot of chicken noodle soup. In the cold weather I keep a pot simmering on the side of the stove. That is good for warming up. Here is my soup

Jaga, it looks like you got out of Texas just in time. I think Fredericksburg probably looks a lot like Idaho right now. We got a little ice here, but not near as much as they got in the hill country. Most of the state has been pretty much shut down for the last couple of days. I think everybody stayed home because us Texans just get into trouble if we try to drive on frozen roads.

James,
thanks for the update. It is hard for me to believe that Fredericksburg is in snow.... but who knows.
When I studied in Fort Worth, my pre-dissertation was delayed a week because of the ice storm.
