Bob, Are you a HAM radio operator? My dad was I can still remember his call sign W7GWX. I used to love sitting down in the radio room as he talked to the world as I imagine you do now. Were you in the Signal Corp by chance? That is where dad picked up the passion.

Bob...one of the ladies that comes to the beach each year is a ham radio opeator. Her husband also taught her Morse code. She is probably close to 80 and each year goes to a radio convention and meets up with the people she talks to. God Bless Her. She is really something. She is German and her name is Leia. Maybe you have spoken to someone from Rochester,NY. I love to hear the stories she has to tell. A very fascinating person. I hope we see her this summer. She also raises birds. African Greys (they speak or at least undersatnd German).

;D Holli, I will send you a PM because I don't want to disclose some info in this forum. Chris, Holli and Bujno. My intrest in electronics goes back to the 50's and I finelly got my license in the 70's when I was in the Navy. My first Short Wave receiver was an old clunker, multi-band receiver that had been discarded by the local Radio/TV repairman. I got it working again and I still remember the broadcast from Radio Moscow about their launch of the Sputnik Satellite. I listened to broadcasts from all over the world and that really peaked my interest. I went into the Navy and became an Electronics Tech. I learned morse code from the Radiomen aboard my ship and I taught them the electronics theory they needed. We all took our tests the same day and passed. Amateur is 99 1/2% listening and the rest is talking. I have talked with operators in almost every part of Europe, except Monaco. Many of my contacts have been in Poland, Russia, the Ukraine, the Baltic countries and Belarus. My 2 most memorable contacts where with Special Event Stations in Poland. One Spec Event was the 1000 Anniversary of Wroclaw City and the final vist of Pope John Paul II to Sandomierz. Amateur Radio is just one of my hobbies because I do have to keep busy. ;D
