New Jerusalem is a name of the fortified monastery near the town Istra. It was established in 1650 as exact copy of the Holy Land (even river Istra near it was renamed in Jordan) by reformer of Russian Orthodoxy patriarchy Nicon. During WWII it was almost totally demolished. After the war the restoration began, which still lasted.

WOW again. What a beautiful monastery exhibiting all the superb features of a Russian Orthodox church. A suggestion for the forum, although it is not going to be an easy job: collect all the photos of churches of the different denominations, large and small churches and chapels and put them in one place all the forum members could look at? Possible? Leslie
