This girl did not know anything about geography of the world. But I feel pity for her, if you would read her bio in WIkipedia.... maybe you could understand why: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kellie_PicklerAnyways, the money were going for charity and she needs deinitively more education: from youtube:

This case of ignorance was on the news here - the Polish love bragging about how much they know about the world, especially in terms of knowing geography and history. Everybody laughs at the American who don't know where Poland is and things like that. But when we think that only USA is comparable to the whole Europe, let's change the perspective and ask how many people know the capital of the Rhode Island or New Hampshire (I'm even not sure if I spell them correctly)? Not many, right?

Hi Zooba -
Yes, I believe geographic size has SOME to do with the ignorance. In Europe a lot of the knowledge is also limited to about a 5000km (3000 mi) range - about the size of the US or EU. Even within that, in the US we have a great divide between East and West. Basically the East side of the Mississippi knows little of the west side, and vice versa. However, the general ignorance is far greater than desirable.
In Europe I was well impressed with the education, but then I realized that anyone I communicated with outside Germany was speaking at least two languages, while the common folk pretty well stick to one language - in what I have seen, anyhow.
Yes, it looks like you did quite well with Rhode Island and New Hampshire. One Pole told me that "if you think Polish tough for Americans, try saying Massachusetts sometime!"
Oh, to my ear the moderator in the show was pronouncing Hungary as Hungry, so that also did not help the poor girl. Maybe she can run for president in the US; "our chidren is learning," as Bush says.

I agree with Zooba and with Kaima's explanation. But, once when I was working as a guide for a group of pilgrims from Eastern Germany I was very surprised to learn that I was the only one who knew English well. We had a girl from France who wanted to join us. She spoke English. Nobody from the German group could really communicate with her. A part of the problem was that the group was not from the large city, still I was surprised.

The presidential candidate Huckabe surprised the press that he was not aware of the Iran intelligence (NIE) report - 24 hours after it was issued.
Frankly, I was surprised to hear it also. Huckabee seems to be a nice guy, still he might be influenced too easily like pres. Bush is - if he does not try to know more about the world and what is going on.
