I got information from a friend and angler. Carp in Poland is 'garbage' fish too when it is huge. The small ones (up to 2 kg) are eaten and liked.
Eels. These are a DELICACY in Poland. Especially smoked eel. Too fatty for me but if there's a party with, err, alcoholic beverages in the menu, it is good to eat something fatty ;D ;D ;D

livia,
The carp in Poland are not like we have here, I am told, I don't fish. I have eaten carp in Poland, but will not eat it here. I have never had eels, but will try on my next trip to Poland. Have you ever tried the food at Osteria Restauracja, ggod fish, in Warsaw, on Mokotowska 49? Each time I am in Warsaw, I stop in, and the food is good. Another place I go for lunch is U Szwejka, Restauracja, on Konstytucji. Large amounts of good food, nice price. Both places are in Warsaw. There is another place for fish, it was downstairs, but I don't remember the name, I was taken there by friends. Can you think of this one?

To all,
Does anyone know if our carp here in the U.S.A. are the same as the ones in Poland? Does anyone living in Poland know of the places, that I speak of? If yes, what do you think of them? Can anyone come up with the name of the place, downstairs, so I can go there again, on this visit to Warsaw? Please don't make fun of me for asking, I need help with this.

To all, Does anyone know if our carp here in the U.S.A. are the same as the ones in Poland? Michael Dabrowski In Poland there are special ponts to grow carp. Here carp is considered a fish for poor. I have heard from other Poles (since I did not eat carp in the US), that this carp here does not taste as good as one in Poland.

Michael Dabrowski Michael, I never been to any of Osteria-net restaurants. I used to spend a Friday evening from time to time at 'U Szwejka' when I was still a pre-graduate student!! They have great live music downstairs on weekend nights. The other fish-place you may think of in the region was a "Mensa" near Kościół Zbawiciela. The best place to eat fish in Warszawa now is in ulica Foksal 'Restauracja Rybna'. Unfortunately the prices there are not that best there! ;D ;D ;D

Livia,
Thank you for your help with my questions. Restauracja Rybna, is that the one on the river? Or where is it. Fish is my favorite meal, so I try many. Again, thanks for your help.

Livia, Thank you for your help with my questions. Restauracja Rybna, is that the one on the river? Or where is it. Fish is my favorite meal, so I try many. Again, thanks for your help. Michael Dabrowski Michael, please let me use your question to form kind of a survival-guide. I hope it will be helpful now and whenever you plan your stay in Warszawa in the future. How to find a place in Poland guide.. We are looking for Restauracja Rybna in Warszawa, ulica Foksal. Here's a tool to find a street, a village, a town in Poland. We are looking for ulica Foksal in Warszawa 1. Go to mapa.szukacz.pl/2. In the left margin look for 'Pokaż na mapie' 3. Write 'Warszawa' in 'Miejscowość/kod pocztowy' frame 4. Write Foksal in 'Ulica/plac/aleja' frame 5. Hit the button 'Pokaż' 6. Adjust the zoom-in zoom-out buttons ('zbliż - oddal') How to find the address of a specific place with incomplete data one has. We are looking for 'Restauracja Rybna'. We know it is in Warszawa in the ulica Foksal. 1. Go to www.google.pl/ (for instance) 2. put everything you know into the frame. In our instance that'll be "restauracja rybna warszawa foksal" 3. hit the 'search' button 4. read the search result : "Restauracja rybna Śródmieście, Foksal 10" How to know which part of street is Foksal 10? Easy if you know: 1. the house numbers in Warszawa grow in the same direction as Wisła river flows which is from South to North (few exceptions here - the most important one is Warszawa's longest street - ulica Puławska) 2. the house numbers in the streets perpendicular to South-North axis grow from the river to the sides. 3. The numbers always begin from the left side of the street, just as we write. So, number 1 (and all odd numbers) are always on the left side with your back to where Wisła river starts, or with your back to where Wisła river flows Knowing all that we know that Restauracja rybna is in Foksal 10. We know that ulica Foksal is the second street across Nowy Świat counting from the major avenue Aleje Jerozolimskie. Foksal 10 is the fifth number in the Northern side of the street, counting from the East. But beware! Immediately behind Foksal 10, there's a number 10a. If you go there, you'll be served Mexican kitchen. You should use your smell sense to distinguish the two! ;D ;D ;D Ulica Foksal upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c1/Warszawaww8.jpg

Livia,
But when you can't read, or speak, or understand Polish, many of the sites can not help. Are there any in English, that I can use?

Livia, But when you can't read, or speak, or understand Polish, many of the sites can not help. Are there any in English, that I can use? Michael Dabrowski Oh Michael ;D ;D ;D What I can do with you? I'm sure there are! Perhaps I will try to give you a fishing-rod not the fish, ok? Do I assume correctly you know how to use the basic, public domain search-engines? Like GOOGLE? If so, choose one site of this type. If you don't understand what I'm talkimg about - you can just write the word google in the address line. Your software (programming) will do the rest for you and you will see kind of empty frame in which one can write. To the right of this frame there's a 'search' button. If you write in this frame and hit the search button you will have the links listed on your monitor. So, just try to google (a verb now, American origin) for Warsaw online map and from the many listed choose the one you like. For instance www.warsaw-online.eu/warsaw_map.phpNow, if you want to work with a Polish site, google Polish online translator you will have many listed, and you will be able to choose the one that suits you the best. And Michael, I frankly think you should to at least try to learn some basic Polish since you like our country and you are often visiting it. I am positive that your friends in Poland will be happy to know that at least you try. To tell you the truth, and quite frankly - not doing so after many visits may be considered a bit impolite. I am sure you understand what I mean.

Thanks again, H Dear Chris, it was my pleasure. And if I was able to be of some use to those of us, who - as I read - are now in a heavy and brave combat, my pleasure is even bigger. All the best to you and my warmest regards!

livia,
When and if you come to the U.S.A., I will be there to help you in any way, you need. Have you ever been here yet? If yes, what did you think of it? If not, do you want to come? If not, why? Many of my friends in Poland, don't care to come here, and don't say why, I don't understand. I will go most any place, I can.

Livia... a while back the guys who started a technology like this emailed me. If you use their service then any foto you clicked on or a name of a jpg you posted would have the balloon effect with description etc. I thought is so cool but too sophisticated for anything I would need. I passed it along to a friend who was big into photography. (now to find my email with name of the original site) here is Kracow www.cracowonline.com/krakow_map.phpEDIT and here is the url pl.zooomr.com/?hl=pl

I will go most any place, I can. Michael, yes I've been for a short while in the USA, but never any further than NYC. What did I think of it? Well, I understood why some call NYC the capital city of the world. I liked it very much but at the same time I felt like a little ant in the huge ant-house, which I am not sure I like. I feel better in European cities. But as you do I like to travel. And I will be in NYC this year again for a one-year stay connected with my work.
