POLISH MAN'S MURDER AT AMSTERDAM GAY CRUISING SPOTThe man who was stabbed to death at a known meeting place for gay men in Amsterdam's Oosterpark on Friday March, 3 2017, was 33-year-old Jan Majdanski from Poland, the police announced in the TV program Opsporing Verzocht ( detection requested) on Tuesday. Majdanski was openly gay and lived in Rotterdam. The police also revealed that they are considering other scenarios in addition to a mugging gone wrong. It is possible that Majdanski was killed because of his sexual orientation or trouble in a relationship. Majdanski shortly before he was murderedIt is unclear whether anything was stolen from Majdanski. The police are calling on witnesses to come forward. Investigators also want to talk to anyone who can give them more information about Majdanski himself and his life. After the broadcast of Opsopring Verzocht, the police received six tips regarding this case. Officers are investigating each one, a spokesperson said to Het Parool.

Pieter
Such a shame to take a life in such a violent manner for no good reason. Hopefully the police will find some thing on a nearby surveillance camera or some one will come forward with information that will lead to an arrest.

Dear Karl,
The Dutch GLBT (Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender) community is very concerned, upset, sad, scared and shocked by this brutal murder of the Pole Jan Majdanski, a citizen from Rotterdam who was murdered in Amsterdam. The liberal Netherlands has changed in the last two decades. Violence against both Dutch and foreign gays and lesbians is common place today. In Groningen Lesbian couples were attacked by native Dutch thugs and beaten up. The problem of homophobia in the Netherlands is the fact that both from some native Dutch elements (working class and middle class; Hooligan, criminal and just hateful people) as from migrants circles there is homofobia.
In several Dutch cities and towns transgender people (often individuals, vulnerable people), Lesbian and Gay couples are the target of native Dutch and Moroccan (or other ethnic) migrant youth groups or intolerant adults. They are harassed and bullied. Windows smashed, doors damaged, or facing constant street terror, verbal and physical abuse and etc. You have cases in peoples neighbourhoods, cases in schools, cases in city centers. Many Gay people go underground again, don't walk hand in hand and etc. Many Dutch people are tolerant, but many others aren't.
The Netherlands is not a homophobic country, but certain Muslim migrant, secular Dutch and christian Dutch people make it hard for the GLBT people to live. A special police task force within the Dutch National Police, Roze in Blauw (Pink in Blue) is busy fighting of anti gay violence and support of ot victims of that harassment and violence.
I think there are various factors for this sad phenomenon. Social, political, cultural, religious, ethnic, sociological and psychological. Due to a segregation culture between native Europeans and migrants, some migrants reject Western culture and the freedom, equality and tolerance that go with that. They cherish and honor their own masculine, macho, non-Western culture. And in that culture and in their religion homosexuality is rejected. The native Dutch gay bashing thugs have the same sort of culture and opinions, but in a different form. Often the perpetrators live in straight (Hetrosexual) group, gang or Hooligan firm collectives. It is cool, fun and great in their simple mindset to harass, beat and humiliate gays and lesbians because they are different, a minority and not the norm of the majority.
Politicians, the Dutch police, public prosecutor, teachers and parents take this issue seriously. Western-Europe has changed radically in two decades.
Cheers, Pieter

Pieter, sad story. This man looked like a good young man. As you said, Dutch society is not homophobic, but there are still homophobic people who hate gay people. Besides, gay's lifestyle is more risky.
I have my own objections against people who flash their sexuality on others, many gay men are just too promiscuous and too easy in a way....and nothing else really matters except how they feel.
