Hi, I just have one simple question. Is there such a thing as polish meatballs My polish colleague said she has never seen meatballs in Poland and that minced meat is only used in hamburgers? I don't believe it, ;D meatballs are an important dish in most european cuisines. Is it possible that in some parts of Poland noone knows about this dish?

Nalle, welcome to the forum! Thanks for an interesting question! Of course we eat meatballs. I actually posted a post a couple of days ago telling that we just eat meatballs right now in my home. But the recipe is a bit different, for a typical Polish meatball. read another interesting post in this forum: jagahost.proboards79.com/index.cgi?board=food&action=display&thread=1205881620Top Ten Favorite Polish Foods of Poland Polish meatballs are actually covered with the layer of bread crumps. It is called: Kotlet mielony (minced cutlet, a large flattened meatball - 93%) . I need to add a recipe and the pictures to the forum. I am sorry I did not do it yet!

My mom always called them Schnitzle (which is what they are called in Southern Poland)
Schnitzla - Polish Meatballs Recipe
30 min | 30 min prep | SERVES 6 -8 1 lb ground round 1 lb ground pork 1 medium onion, chopped 2 eggs 1 (16 ounce) box saltine crackers 1 lb margarine (not butter)
1. Chop onion and sauté in 1 stick margarine until very soft. 2. Drain and reserve margarine. 3. Mix raw pork, ground round, cooked onion, 1/4 box finely crushed cracker crumbs, and 2 eggs. Form patties with 1 1/2 to 2 tablespoon meat. 4. Crush another quarter box of the saltines into very fine crumbs, coat each meatball in the crumbs and gently flatten very slightly. 5. Fry in reserved margarine, keeping margarine level in pan to at least 1/4 inch. Drain and enjoy.
She used just ground beef and used plain bread crumbs. We use to have this for Sunday dinner when I was little and it was served with boiled potatoes and a cucumber salad. Very simple food.
