An interesting situation and issue that perhaps will never be completely resolved. The gay population are asking to be treated as of most all people, but yet their life style is some what clouded in controversy. What it amounts to for what every laws are passed in America, it is still to the acceptance of the public as to what is acceptable or unacceptable.
Perhaps the other aspect of concern is two fold: One of course their health care and access to the drugs some need for their HIV infection that is a life time affliction they must contend with.
Whilst as a twin concern to the above, is the various firms that hire them or their house mates. If they are accepted as legal spouses, then hand in hand goes health insurance coverage for family members being them. With this, will be survivors insurance coverage in the case of death or disability of the primary provider to the survivor as being the recipient of life insurance pay out and with this, inheritance rights.
As a personal experience whilst my time in the Pacific Northwest of the Seattle and Portland area. Was the large number of transgender and gay people. They were for the most part, not promoting them selves on the street, but were very discrete in their manner. It was for the most part after a period of interfacing exchange, their situation disclosed in self. In the best manner upon my part, was to insure to them as a person, that our exchange would not be disclosed to others, simply that my presence was for completion of business of my own responsiblity. For my self, for the most part, these exchanges were very profitable in work completion.
In conclusion of my own experience is for the most part, most of these people are victims of life experiences and genetic malfunction that is the fault of nature. For what more as a very straight person of my self to say?

their life style is some what clouded in controversy. The only "controversy" is people choosing to be bigots and creating a problem in their own head. Period. People choose to force their personal beliefs on others and expect the whole of society to follow along. There is no controversy in reality. Love is love.

Love is love.Eric My self do understand your reasoning and hold no argument for or against it. For my self, I do not understand the stance of those against or for, for one thing, to be kissing another fellow is disgusting. The sight of two ladies kissing, for some reason this seems ok, and only speaking for my self.. For as with Human relations for what ever, there most likely are a multitude of reasons for such such an unlikely event of two people of the same sex forming such an alliance as we are speaking of. Quite frankly I do not understand it, but accept it as life rather we agree or not. Not to belabour this topic overly much, but I do have an experience to relate that is directly related to this subject: Again, whilst assigned to a project in the Pacific North West {USA}. Was my self invited to a house party hosted by two fellows I was acquanted to by virtue of needing a rental auto. These two very professional fellows owned the Ford/Mercury dealership I was having some difficulties with the leasing manager. I did need a rental auto very badly in short time. These two fellows {Bob and Randy, that was their actual name} introduced them selves as the owners and asked if I needed some help, which I did and they quickly took charge of the situation and I was on my way with a rental auto in short order. Whilst speaking with them in the manner of a heart felt thank you. They invited me to their house party they were hosting, and so I attended. It was a good gathering with a very good split of professional and working people attended. With this, was to meet some Boeing executives to exchange with. The crux of the above, is, Bob and Randy were a gay couple and I had no idea what so ever, and did it matter in the end,,answer: heck no. We were all friends they guessed my self was not exactly what I presented, and they accepted me for my self, and this is the point, to accept the other as them selves as human beings for what we are.
