This weekend I am making Barszcz ala Sir Leslie. I must embarrassingly mention that I added a few items, just because they were handy and many I had purchased last weekend: a clove, couple cloves of fresh garlic, some fresh thyme and some dried Marjoram. (Us backseat chef's will give masters like Leslie heartburn every time . Here's the "simmer" pot.... It should be done about 3:00 PM central.. Final product picture and taste testing to follow.

OK... so tonight we sampled Sir Leslie's Barszcz. This Barszcz has far less beef stock then my previous recipe, and thus is much "sweeter" then the other, which was more salty. I must profess, I did not have any meaty bones to make stock from. I did add a few extraneous items to the mix, but they did not give this recipe it's characteristic flavor. I enjoyed it and will definitely make it again. My daughter didn't like it as well as the other, and my wife LOVED IT and would prefer I make it over any other. SO, Barszcz ala Sir Leslie was a hit. Here's the finished product.

Serf Pleased somebody enjoyed my approach. Barszcz is very much a matter of taste - I prefer it on the sweeter side, but not too sweet. I rarely add meat to drag the flavour out - rather I buy from a supermarket prepared beef or chicken stock. It is a Knorr product entitled ' Simply Stock' made from natural ingredients. All you do is open the package and pour the liquid into you preparing barszcz. It comes in a plastic package of 450ml€, with ingredients: Water, reduced beef (or chicken) broth, salt, various vegetables (carrot, leek, celeriac), spices and herbs. I can certainly recommend if it is available with you. Between us we shall soon rule of royal world of Barszcz!! ;D Sir Leslie

Well, we have a good start in that we have twice as many recipes as the Barszcz.net site! My challenge now will be to find the common ground between these two loves of my life, each whom prefers a different "style"... bringing these polarized waring factions together is not.. whoa, wait a minute, I thought I was on the Politics thread there for a minute.. ;D, Finding a compromise blend for their consumption will be my ongoing challenge, as I enjoy each style.

Chris (Holly) Your problem is that you have no will-power! Just sit back and read about it all and imagine that you are eating it all, enjoying it all, and, because it's just imagination, you never put a single pound on. And I know - because I have no will-power at all and just eat whatever I make and put in front of myself! Don't you dare ask me what I weigh!!! Leslie

Sir L, My issue is that I decided that if I try to be good now - in 20 something days I can enjoy good Polish food to my heart's content! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
